A new flip-lid from Schuberth?
What about Schuberth, you might ask? After all, isn’t the German maker the flip-lid specialist?

Historically, yes; but their latest C4 didn’t really come up to expectations, and is now quite swiftly been withdrawn from the market. Whilst the venerable C3 Pro is looking a little long in the tooth. It’s been around for over 10 years, and the technology has moved on.

But all that will change quite shortly when Schuberth introduces a new flip helmet. We cannot possibly suggest what this helmet might be called, although it doesn’t require the intellect of a genius to work it out. It will arrive on the shelves in early 2022. It will be the first 22-06 flip on the market, and we know that the German maker has gone to great lengths to put it on a par with, and potentially even improve upon, the Neotec 2.

It’s on its way. With a rounder shape, more like the C3 Pro, it will fit some people who cannot get on with a Shoei. We’re reliably informed that we will be able to offer changeable cheekpads. There’s a rumour that the Sena comms. will be based on a model that is superior to the one on the Neotec. The only downside, as far as we can see, is that the new helmet will be more expensive than the Shoei. And we think that’s bold, coming from where Schuberth has done in recent years, and given that the market-leading Shoei has such a solid, proven reputation.

But, for some people, the Schuberth will be worth the wait.

I heard from someone in the trade about the new C5 ? last year , Covid put the mockers on the development and its late 2020 release , was told it is designed to a be a C3/C3 pro replacement rather than an upgraded C4 and will be going back to a proper Schuberth shaped shell design .

The C4 range were originally designed to a brief from BMW as the System 7 ,however, before production began BMW jumped ship and went all far eastern on them instead switching to the LS2 made helmets.

Spoke fairly recently to Pete who used to have Just Helmets in Newcastle and he said the numerous warranty issues with the C4 was one of the main reasons he closed his helmet business

I love my E1 and my first premium lid C3 Pro, but always found it to be slightly tight around jaw line.
My Arai QV is fitting lovely, but bugger is it noisy on tour. Fingers crossed the C5 will be a better fitting lid than C3 was.

That reminds me. Must flog my E1 and C3 Pro.

I liked the E1, but the comms are not a patch on the System 7. Does any helmet with comms come close to the System 7 ?

Wonder if an E1 replacement is in the pipeline, the current one is after all just a C3 pro shell with a different chin guard, visor and peak

An e1 replacement will be very interesting as I like my e1 but would like it to be as ventilated as my tour x4

I had an S1 for years which is still on the shelf but when it came to replacing it I tried various flip fronts, Shoei Neotech, Schewy, HJC and eventually went for the X-Lite, which I still have but rarely use because I tend to go for my Bell open face more than anything. Now winter is coming I will get the flip out again and give it clean. That E1 looks good, I don't think it was around when I was looking. It will be interesting to see what is under that towel!

Yep, looks like they've addressed some of the known issues. For me the fit was never quite right. I guess we'll know soon enough what the bike mags/testers feel about them but if it's positive feedback and quieter than the Neotec 2 I might just give one a go...price dependant of course. If that rumour is true that they're going to be more expensive then the helmet would have to be VERY good to get people to upgrade. If I were them I'd pitch it for similar money, especially as they're behind the curve.

Well looking at Motolegends review it appears they have gone for the less traditional Schuberth shell shape (ie similar to the C4 and Shoei) , if they have that is me out of the market as the C3 pro rounded shape fits me perfectly whereas the C4 and Neotec do not

I like the new customisable linings. One of the reasons why I purchased Arai lid, as I was able to have fitted bang on.

Good idea to move the choker strap forward. The C3 is a good lid, but on long runs, does become a bit uncomfortable.

The SC2 comms is a good one too. Featuring latest tech and not a dated system as per 10U variants offered with C3/E1 lids.

The chin bar lock when lifted is a good shout, meaning you can’t get nicked for riding with it being up.

Let’s see what the prices will be like.

If they are favourable, I may get one.

Fully customisable linings and cheek pads unlike in C4

A Fantastic review by Motolegends

I find that surprising. I’ve used both C3 and Neotec. They both feel a similar fit.

It's a really interesting concept. Possibly a custom leathers vs standard leathers moment. In a similar fashion, maybe the new helmet will only fit as well as the shop assistant can be bothered (or capable) to help you get it right. I've had everything from good quality to zero "that looks good on" assistance in the past.

I was trying to work out what you would remove for cleaning....all of the 20 pieces?

I think I missed the weight Inc comms in the launch and Motolegends video. Anyone clock it?

Reckon they'll sell out of the cement grey ones pretty quickly. Colour of the moment for bikes n cars it seems.

In the past, my experience with Motolegends has been a bit vague.
However since Covid, they had to remodel their customer service approach in line with the social distancing rules set out by the Gov. Meaning that now they operate, based (my understanding at least) on a ticked que, a bit like in hospitals or post office. Meaning they have more time to spend with each customer.

My approach to choosing the correct lid would be, to try the stock size for my head, then if it not good, replace linings with thinnest ones available, and work back to a correct fit.

The grey looks good, (if slightly bland).
Glow stick yellow is a no no for me.

I do not want to jump to conclusions here, so will wait for more reports to come through and when physical stock become available. Then go and try one on at Motolegends. I think it would be great addition for my Arai QV.

£600 for the colours

cant seem to find the link to the review on Motorlegends website

I suspect, they (ML) have jumped the gun with their (get there 1st) review. As Schuberth in their launch presentation said, that public and journalist will have access to prices and specifications in the coming weeks.

Shuberth GmbH may have asked ML to pull the video for now and repost it with proper updates on prices and specs. The video was showing a fair few unique ideas that ML have for the lid, including mocking up the comms system from the M1 helmet. They suggested custom fitting the helmet with correct size padding to clients heads, without said client encoring the extra costs.
Unlike Arai and Shoei, who do exchange program (various sizes of cheek & crown linings) for having your lid fit your head (but likely that ML to keep the originals). Schuberth distributors/dealers would sell you the required padding for the extra cash. Meaning, you would have a standard set to keep , unlike with Arai & Shoei.

This might be the controversial reason (advantage) why ML have (been asked to) pulled the video, as the exchange bit would give them the upper hand in the sales department vs their competitors, such as Infinity MC's, Sport Bike shop, etc. Who may have complained to Schuberth on the grounds of unfair trading practices.

I might be speculating here, as it may have been something to do with them mentioning possible price brackets, etc. :nenau
