Sad news from Cork - Jimmy Ellis (AKA Grumpy) died last night. His likes will not be seen again - beneath his somewhat crusty exterior lurked a true gent & a man who was a BMW (especially airhead) magician. He liked the road less travelled & I on occasion shared that road with him. RIP Jimmy

That is a shock to hear.
R.I.P. Jimmy, The Grumpy One.
You will missed.

RIP Jimmy and thanks for the good rides we had with you. From you I learned about the Butter Roads, before the time of the Google. You were a kind of a Google yourself. Adios, Grumpy One!

RIP Jimmy

A man whose company and personality I really enjoyed. What Jimmy didn't know about older bikes and BMWs in particular wasn't worth knowing.

His knowledge of every back-road and boreen on the island of Ireland is also unsurpassed .

Sorry to learn of Jimmy’s passing, I hope he went peacefully, no doubt there is an airhead on the other side for him.

Very sad to hear this, I liked Jimmy he has looked after my bike for years. May he RIP.

The miserable fecker :D

He was some man to ride that little Basic :bow
And as Fergus says he knew some 'interesting' roads

RIP Jimmy

It's hard to say something that hasn't already been said above, especially as it is all true.

Luckily for some of us we have lasting and happy memories of riding green roads and boreens all over the country behind his wee basic. And if you lost sight of him it would be the full of your days work to catch up with him again.

I'll never forget two days of just such riding many years ago in the company of Jimmy, the Gunner, Daithi, Jochen and others.

And as he'd say at the end of a short stop, More fun........

RIP Jimmy.
