We don’t get a lot on Italy on these pages, I guess because the Alps form a natural barrier.

This suggestion of a jaunt around Pisa and down to (or up from) Rome might interest some. It comes courtesy of Tourenfahrer magazine February 2022.

Download the routes in the usual way.

I once stayed in a converted worker's cottage* in Greve in Chianti, which is on the red route above.

Beautiful soft rolling hills, olive farms and vineyards as far as you can see, almost no traffic. An evening light that's a photographer's dream, it really was an incredibly relaxing place. When I get the time, Italy's high on my list.

* I never did find out what he converted to/from.

Thanks for this....this will be useful. I'm riding down to Tuscany for a week in May, before continuing on to Greece.

Val D'Orcia is one of the most beautiful places and it is a paradise for motorbiking.

The blue route into Rome is the via Cassia (SR2). You can essentially follow that all the way from around Siena and it is a fast, but flowing amazing route south.
It is my usual way to go when traveling back to Rome on the motorbike.

Aha, I thought / hoped our resident spaghetti merchant would be able to confirm the article was right.

The magazine article in full was the story of how some of the small party were on motorbikes and some on hired scooters. They all seem to have a good time.

:D

Yes, it is a good proposed route.
I'll add a few more around the area (I tend to vacation in Tuscany, as you can see from some persistent lines on my Basecamp Screen). There is some amazing places. And way less traffic than on the alps.

Radda in Chianti is an excellent base, we will be back.

The first photo was en route
