Made it successfully up the now Ice-free zig zags to a sunny Teide

Still evidence of the earlier heavy snow, though.

Decided to continue down the ‘hill’ through Villaflor where I had been drenched a few days earlier, having carefully checked there was no sign of a band of cloud.

At Villaflor, Garmin directed me onto the Camino Real (or ‘Royal Road’). My high expectations were soon dashed when I saw it was only just a car wide much of the way. And you will deduce something else about the Camino Real from the map photo of it with road circled (it’s the white one).

What’s interesting is that the (newer, I think) yellow road wiggles its way down while the white old road just plunges straight down. And there were many parts well in excess of 20% gradient, which could not have been attempted by the cars of the past. That leads me to suppose this was an old trail for donkeys and the like transporting goods up the mountain. It was certainly fun to ride, mainly in 2nd gear using engine braking!

After a leisurely lunch by the beach in Las Galletas (sorry, same dish as last Monday!) I headed back to Playa de las Américas to return the bike

As you can see, many cultures represented in the fleshpots of S Tenerife:

Across the road from the Gaelic Corner is Dados (next door to Sugar & Spice).
It's basic food in there with a Spanish twist and the Halloumi fries are excellent. Well worth a try.

Enjoyed this thread.:beerjug:
(I hope the calima hasn't been to bad, read of it yesterday)

Thanks brut33 - just ate superbly (if expensively) at Las Lanzas!

In conclusion: the Honda performed superbly over the 1.000 kms that I ride (somewhat to the surprise of the rental agency, not sure how many serious riders they see).

Used little fuel, fitted like a glove, happy to chunter along as I enjoyed the view, or to throw itself around the corners. Fitted as it was with a decent Givi box, it would make an excellent adventure tourer for not very much money (by today’s astronomical standards ). Being slender, it fitted nicely into the dedicated ‘moto’ parking spaces (unlike the Victory parked next to me in PDLC last night!).

Not cheap to rent (£350 for 7 days including insurance) but well worth it for the fun I had, despite the changeable weather. Atlantic Moto we’re the people and I found them friendly and helpful.

Thanks all for your kind words…and yes, the calima (haze) really kicked off yesterday so glad to be leaving today.

Great stuff Si, our Versys 650 was a little more expensive for the seven day hire, that will be due to the increased capacity I guess, and it did come with panniers and a top box, worked out about £85 more than yours from White Star Moto.

Like you, we put on about 1000kms in the week.
