TLDR; I need a new battery for my 2015 R1200GS LC. Do I want the Yuasa YTX14-BS?

The bike's been attached to BMW's canbus charger whenever it's in the garage, but earlier this week she almost failed to turn over after filling up at the end of a ride. Needless to say this annoyed me somewhat - I'd originally forked out for that expensive charger when I bought the bike from new because the battery in my previous GS failed in exactly the same way, and at the time I had to pay for recovery and a dealer-fitted replacement. Once the wallet-tears had dried I decided to go for the BMW charger and use it all the time, so I'm a bit miffed to report that the same thing's happened again.

To be fair these batteries aren't massive and perhaps 7 years is about all you can expect, regardless of charger, but this time around I'll source and fit it myself. The only challenge is getting one sent over to me on the Isle of Man, so before I shell out for the inevitable specialist shipping I'd appreciate a heads-up to make sure I'm ordering the right part. Many thanks in advance for any input!

You may be lucky and be able to fit an Odyssey battery, as fitted to the earlier hexhead generation

It may/will require removal of part of the battery tray depending on your model year & month of manufacture

However in terms for Crank for amp, it will blow the rest into the tumbleweed

Alternativly the compatible mottobatt unit is a good alternative

Nippys do the Odyssey & fitting instructions Mottobatt i think is Tanya or similar

This is the problem if you leave a charger permanently attached.
It covers up the failing battery. Especially if it's 7 years old.
First time the battery needs some power and it hasn't been attached to it's umbilical cord it's fecked. It hasn't learnt to stand on it's own two feet, so to speak.

after time to translate, make lot of logic, so BMW responsible for many battery fails and keep selling chargers

Bedankt Winjar - I can see that this has a capacity of 16 Ah versus 12.5 Ah, so that's indeed better for me. Hope it physically fits the bike!

The Yuasa version GYZ16H certainly fits, which that the Motobat is equivalent to.

Yes the YTX14-BS will fit, however, I fitted the heavy duty version to mine, Yuasa YTX14H-BS, only a few quid more and now mine turns over quicker, and more importantly, turns over easier in colder weather as it has 240CCA as opposed to 200CCA with the standard battery

Odyssey are, as Tina once said, "quite simply the best"
2 of our oilheads have them fitted, one Battery has to be over 12-years old and the other is a decade old.

Thanks for the replies everyone, really appreciate it. After the almost-failed-to-start episode last Sunday I've left the bike off charger expecting it to be dead, but last night she turned over no problems at all. Most peculiar. I'll give her a good shakedown ride this weekend and will keep the bike trailer on standby just in case, though part of me thinks that at seven years old the battery probably wants replacing anyway, especially if I ever plan to take her across again on the ferry.

With that, thanks for all the feedback and recommendations. 👍🏻
