when do the midges arrive?

I can confirm the midges are alive and biting this week in Wanlockhead. I used Smidge, great stuff.

There's a few about (I was up last week), but a breeze is all you need to keep the buggers at bay, apparently they can only really fly in still conditions (under 6mph breeze ).
I've been plagued when camping (in the eyes, up the nose, in the ears it drives you insane) but that's pretty rare they are that bad

I'm spending a few days touring Dumfries and Galloway very soon. Although I'm very familiar with Edinburgh and the Highlands, I've no idea if D+G have a similar midge problem. Advice welcome.

Not so much of an issue staying on the Irish Sea coast. In around Galloway forest and some parts of the Solway coast more of an issue. Not really a problem anywhere in Scotland if you’re not camping.

You’ll be fine, they’re all in my garden Billions of the little bastards.
