Deleting trips in the import section

This cannot be done from within the device itself, you have to use your home computer. Here as very basic how to do it, with some screen shots. I use a Mac and the device is not an XT but the methodology will be the same for the XT. The only exception to this sweeping statement is if you use a Mac with your XT, as then the process is different. There is a separate thread in the XT section on how to carry out the process if you use a Mac.

I’ll assume you use a PC…. Here goes:

A. Attach your XT to your PC. It should pop up as a drive on PC. If you have an SD card in the device, that should pop up, too.

B. Open the XT drive and find your way to a folder called GPX

C. Open the GPX folder. Highlight and delete everything in it. If you are nervous about deleting anything, simply highlight everything in it, cut it out and plonk it on your desktop screen; you can always then just put it back. If you do send it to the bin, it might be an idea to empty the bin too. On a Mac, things sometimes leap back out of the bin.

D. Do the same with the SD card. There may well not be a GPX folder in it. If there isn’t don’t do anything more.

E. With the device still connected to your PC, open BaseCamp. You should now be able to see that all the routes and any track records are gone.

If you refuse to use BaseCamp, you can skip E entirely.

F. Disconnect your XT from your home computer. It might now be an idea to shut the XT down completely by holding the power button down, then agreeing to power off. Now restart the device. It might take a little while to power up and it has to summon up all its maps again; just be patient. It might well not make any difference powering it right down but it won’t do any harm.

G. Fire the XT up again. Go into Trip Planner. There should be nothing there. Go into import trip / track records, there should be nothing there either.

H. Job done. You have now purged your XT.

I. Now and again routes lurk (I have no idea why) outside of the GPX folder. If you had some lurking elsewhere, then they will not have been purged. Go back into the drive(s) and tap around in the other folders, to delete anything that looks like a Garmin route. Take care though, not to delete anything else by mistake. If in doubt, DO NOT delete something, unless you know how to put it back. Once it’s gone, it’s gone.

Found the thread for Mac. Worked a treat.

I'd seen the GPX folder previously (mine were all phone files created in MyRouteApp) but wrongly assumed they were the actual Trip .gpx files and not just "temps"
Dare I ask where the "real" Trip files are held? No, better not.

Thanks for all the assist guys.
