Having done fleabay searches, 1150GS or early 1200GS

Hi Guys

Assume low mileage ish, well looked after, big service just done etc

Would you go 2003 1150GS or a 2006 ish 1200GS?

Is the original 1150 infinitely more reliable? Or would a 1200 be far more sensible?

My plan is to keep the bike for many years to come!

I had a used (but only 1,200 miles) 2002 R1150GS and then bought a new 2006 R1200GS.

The 1200 was a decent bike but the 1150 was a far better bike re built quality and there was nothing in it re real world performance. I should never have sold it..... .....

I owned each of them for three years. I can't remember how many miles I put on them but they were both well used for touring in the UK and across Europe. They were looked after properly by myself and Jefferies BMW. Both were 100% reliable.

I would have another 1150 but not another 1200. In my opinion (FWIW) the 1150s were the last of the higher quality BMWs.

To add. If you're serious about this stuff then a 15 quid subscription is a proper 'no brainer'. Do it BEFORE you buy NOT after....
