It’s not all ‘must do’ mountains. As this article suggests, ‘Go away from the mainstream’.

Courtesy of Motorrad magazine 08/2022 it might interest some:

Two seconds on Google reveals that the Waldviertel region of Austria, translates as ‘Forest quarter’. Two more seconds gives the local tourist board’s website:

https://www.waldviertel.at/en

A couple of seconds more, tells you they even have their own sausage:

https://second.wiki/wiki/waldviertler_wurst

Two more seconds and Kurvenkoenig’s motorbike route (found by doing no more than asking Google for a very simple three-word search of: Waldviertel motorrad touren) pops up. The internet will even translate the foreign into English:

What does this all tell us?

A. That it’s a popular motorcycling destination, different to much of the rest of Austria.

B. As it’s popular, there’ll be lots of hotels and that they’ll probably be ‘biker friendly’.

C. With just a tiny bit of surfing around from one initial magazine article, you can find lots of things to see and do. Instant holidays, with no more effort required than using a bit of imagination and a minute or two of your time.

Great ideas to add to a trip, but think you would be mad to go all that way and not take in a few Alpine passes.

This coming year I fancy touring all the quiet, non mainstream and hidden areas of Northern Austria, like Krems, Zwettl, Thaya and others. Done the Alps and all the fancy stuff now its the hidden stuff that interests. Wether it'll happen this year is another thing as last year I kept it simple and did a group tour of highland Scotland. Anyone done those areas?
