Dinant accommodation

I passed through Givet yesterday. Just a short loop from Dinant after spending the morning exploring Dinant's citadel and town. Great roads round there.

The Ibis hotel in Dinant was well liked by my 4 companions. Bike parking outside the 24 hour reception with metal loops for chains if you want to use them. We had ground floor rooms with lovely views of the river. We found the terrace off the bar a great place to assemble for a few drinks before ambling the short distance into town where you will find many different types of eatery from the friterie to brasserie with burgers and steaks at the lower end and a few posher places with set menus for 40-70 euros per person.
The bar in the Ibis was remarkably cheap compared to the places at the touristy end of town and France! 5.50 euros for half a litre of Leffe, compared to nearly 9 euros in Reims.

The Citadel is interesting and costs 11 euros to visit. Great views and some gruesome stories.

I'll post a review of the whole trip, starting in Dieppe, a stop in Reims and 3 nights in Buhlertal in the Black Forest before heading to Dinant.

You didn’t use the underground car park in the Ibis ?

there wasn't an underground car park. Surface parking for about 20 cars plus the bike area in front of reception as shown in https://goo.gl/maps/8BNWitdKhFvket7B7 - there was a ramp down to the river front and surface car park at the casino next door. The level under reception had rooms looking out to the river. In this photo, the bar terrace is at street level at the front of the hotel. My travel companion was on floor -1 in a room at river level. I was on the "ground" floor 3 windows to the left of the bar terrace.

Bizarre . We put the bikes in car park the year it was opened , about 2005 I think

I enquired about parking and was informed there is a underground parking area.

From the other side of the river - did you park in the building to the right of the hotel? Maybe they had that as an option back then? https://goo.gl/maps/egxTEWEzrRWi65eY7 - seems to have a garage door

I seem to recall there was a ramp down under the hotel , with the river on the right as you headed down .

Anyway , it was a nice place and sounds like it still is .

Probably not what you’re looking for as we camped at https://villatoile.be/ .
If you fancy a challenge the stairs to the citadel are a healthy alternative to the cable car*

I think there is something lost in translation - from the Streetview link in post #24 you can seek a couple of disabled spaces, a 2 wheeler parking area with security hoops outside the front door and the 15 space car park, including 1 coach bay. Rotate the image and you will see the public car park in front of the Casino entrance.

We asked reception about parking and we were directed to the area in front of reception with the security hoops. Arsey is remembering something that was available 17 years ago, which was probably the underground parking at the Casino as he has described the ramp visible in the Streetview image in post #26.

Whatever is described on the website and stored in Arsey's memory, I was actually at the hotel for 2 nights last week so might have more up to date information than either of these sources!

Excellent, first hand, hands on, up-to-date information, much prized on this site.

We can assume that it’s both biker safe and friendly, as you were not shot at, insulted or your awesome steed taken to Albania.

indeed, and I didn't have the mate with the sacrificial KTM along this time.

Is there usually a kettle in these places ?

not at this Ibis in Dinant - you get a plastic cup in the room and a tap.

you get kettles in some, but not in the room. There is sometimes a self serve drinks station in the reception area. We used an Ibis Styles for an overnight in Reims on the way to the Black Forest and that had the self serve thing.

Thanks Wessie. I only have 20 Euros per day budget so the self serve will come in handy.;)
