Literally, a range of extinct volcanoes. It’s not a million miles away. Here it is from Aachen, easily get able from Calais or the Dutch ports. It’s only a day away if you go direct or two if yiu take in a bit of scenery by going off via the Ardennes, perhaps.

I tripped over this website by looking at some videos hosted by Motorrad Strassen magazine. Yes, the comentary is in foreign but the pictures are in English

This brought me to:

https://motorrad-vogelsberg.de/

It translates OK into English and has three suggested GPX routes, all of which link instantly to Kurviger.

Here’s a sample of Tour 1:

Tap around in this website for all sort of ideas. It translates OK into English:

https://www.motorradstrassen.de/regionen/vogelsberg-spessart-rhoen

Which will bring you to this video, with more ideas:

A bit more surfing around through just asking Goggle for Vogelsburg motorrad, throws up this, which again translates OK and has links to routes:

https://www.louis.de/magazin/touren/tourentipps/deutschland/mitte/vogelsberg

A bit more surfing throws up this, which translates and provides a decent enough map:

https://www.motorradonline.de/reise/motorrad-reise-vogelsberg-du-bist-deutschland/

A bit more, throws up:

https://www.polo-motorrad.com/de-de...ren/polo-tourentipps/vogelsberg-03010420.html

A tiny bit more, produces this ‘biker friendly’ hotel and more routes:

https://www.konrad-zuse-hotel.de/Motorradtouren-Rhoen-Vogelsberg 2.html

Instant holidays in minutes all from a two word search and a bit of imagination.

It’s not without its risks though:

Enjoy your holiday more…… by coming back home!

I am hoping / planning on ‘Doing the volcanoes’ in September. Calais to somewhere around La Roche en Ardenne on day one. Then to say, Bad Soden-Salmünster on day two. I have provisionally reserved (free cancellation) a hotel in both towns, whist I refine my plans. My hope is to then ride as many of the recommended routes as possible over say a week. German hotels are quite ‘cheap’ in comparison to France, so all in all it looks like quite good value.

To come home, it’ll be either retracing my steps or returning perhaps by cutting south west to the top of the top of Black Forest, crossing to France and then coming back via Dijon’ish….. or…… by stitching in parts of the ‘German Motorcycle Route’ or the ‘German Tree Lined Route’….. or…..

I’ll have maybe three weeks for the lot, so it’ll be fun plotting it out. I plan to do nothing more than use information I have collected for free (or a few euro) on the internet and / or from books and magazines I have bought. Near enough, instant holidays.

Here’s (very roughly) the way out:

Something like this:

Or this:

Of the two, I now favour the first over the second. Why? I am falling into the “Let’s do the Black Forest again” trap. I have also done the Dijon to Calais run on more occasions than I care to remember.

Nope, it’s got to be a predominantly German thing, not least as I want to go to Thuringia. I may even use the Hook of Holland to Harwich and straight down the A12 back to London as an alternative.
