Advice re buying this kind of E Bike - Raleigh Evo

I had a look at this yesterday. Cube Supreme Sport Hybrid Pro 625 (large frame-29inch wheels). I had a long chat with the chap in the shop (Formby cycles) He reckons I'd be better off with this style of frame due to my size and arthritic hips and knees. At first I thought it's a girls bike as it has no crossbar, yet he told me it's unisex and lots of blokes are buying them. The more I looked at it the more it grew on me. It's about £500 more than I planned to spend, but it's on 0% finance.
Has anyone any knowledge/experience of these bikes? I'm tempted to get a test ride (I couldn't yesterday as I had my motorcycle gear on)

My advice would be if that style of frame works for you, then all good. No point buying something that doesn't work for you, just because of what others may (or more likely may not) be thinking.

We have Cube 625 mountain bikes - they have the same Bosch power unit; 625wHr battery; same lights etc etc

Apart from the high static weight (which you don't notice when you're riding), we can't fault them. The Bosch drive unit has different levels of assistance plus a walking mode.

We love them!

Cube always seem to be right at the top of the league when it comes to value for money.

Don’t hesitate! Buy it straight away. Worth every penny. I love mine. Can’t fault it. Had it about 4 years now. :thumb2

Hi Al, The Hybrids with 29" wheels are great, easy on the road and more than capable on tracks/trails. I bought a Canondale Tesoro neo 2 a couple of years back with a 0% finance deal, just about to finish paying for it and have done nearly 3k miles. So good we sold one of our cars, wifey got an ebike too, they are so much fun and you feel that they are doing you good too. Unlike off road motorcycles you can use byways as well so loads of reasons to go get it now (do have a test ride though to make sure you are comfortable on it) Cheers:beerjug:John B

I recently ordered a Trek Allant+5. I had a good 20 minutes test ride on mixed surfaces. Got it on interest free credit, should arrive tomorrow afternoon, I'm all excited like a big kid :D

It's a revelation, I can't believe how good it is. I was out at 6.30am this morning clocking up a few more miles en route to get the morning paper and took in a couple of hills. I'm hooked :)

Just a heads up…

If your E bike doesn’t comply with the following requirements which are ridiculously easy to exceed. An example is a max power output of 250 watts.

You’ll then need Driving licence (easy), Road Traffic Act insurance (Endorsable offence!) and a motorcycle crash helmet.

Requirements = LINK

I was reading on my FB feed that in one county (Northants??) Special Constables, the free voluntary ones, have been trained on what to look for and been tasked with doing stop checks looking for the appropriate stickers.

My wife wanted an e-bike but wanted a folder so that it could go in the car instead of having to use a bike rack. A very helpful chap in a specialist e-bike shop in Kirkby Stephen suggested one of these.

I didnt want her having to deal with derallier (sp?) gears and a filthy oily chain after a ride so the Bergamont was spot on. The brakes are astounding and a 10 mile pretty hilly trip around the Ardlamont peninsula doesn't even take a bar off the battery range. The shimano hub gears are superb and the Gates belt drive solves the oily chain issue.

The whole thing looks and feels like a quality package.

What stickers are those ?

Power output
Manufacturer of the motor
Battery voltage or maximum speed..

All on standard bikes, obviously they can be modified from standard……….

Mine is definately standard. I did see on youtube an item of how to increase potential speed by a few mph by fixing a magnet on a pedal and moving the sensor on the rear fork. Not that I would something like that, well maybe not until the warranty has expired :D

I am sure mine has the stickers, will have a look now to see

I see a couple of ones round my way that are taking the p*** for sure.

One passed me going along the level, without pedaling, and his chainset was orange with rust. As he got nearer the traffic, he rode up the kerb and carried along the footpath at a fair old pace too.
