Last week I replaced the intank petrol pump on Rhynas 2000 F650GS.
Bike would not start and after a neighbour who had the same symptoms suggested it might be the pump I had a look.
The petrol had dissolved parts of the mesh filter on the bottom of the pump and covered everything in brown residue, even the filler neck which looked like rust. The neck took 6 hours of ultrasonic cleaner to get it soft enough to remove without damaging the base coat on the metal.
I made a metal pump holder to replace the cracked one on the bike shortly after she got it and had it plated and that gold colour had been removed from that where it contacted the petrol.
Also worryingly the rubber mounts that hold the opump inside the tank had perished and these are found on other BMW bikes as well as some of the cars.
I have had the old pump in the ultrasonic cleaner for few hours and it now clean so will be interested to see if it still works.

Bike was last ridden 6 months ago.
