FWIW, this is what the manual says regarding the dynamic headlights:

Quote Riders Manual:

Ride height sensors on front and rear suspension supply data for permanent beam throw adjustment. While the motorcycle is moving straight ahead, pitch compensation keeps the throw of the headlight beam constantly in the optimum, preset range, regardless of ride and load state. With the Adaptive headlight function, the low-beam unit is additionally rotated about an axis to a degree that varies with the bank angle, compensating for the vehicle's angle of lean.

Thanks once again Knutk for sourcing the technical analysis of the 'in and outs' of fiendishly complex sounding auto levelling/looking round corners type headlight assembly.
As Mr Flipfly confirms in his post it works surprisingly well. I'm curious as to how much a replacement assembly is if it gets damaged or fails to continue working after the warranty expires, it's a £600 option on the configurator for the base model but possibly more to replace.
Flip has that covered with his Denalis which will of course light up everything in a 100 metre radius no doubt.
It probably puts a warning

on the TFT though if a motor fails, which may affect things at MOT time (unless you have a tame MOT man), I think if I was to replace my 1250 TE I would definitely start with the base model and tick the options I do want, but they make you wait ages for the build date.

If it is a £600 option it will be at least double perhaps treble that that to replace , on my 2018 gsa sat nav prep was ordered as an option and BMW forgot to fit it at the time of build (took my money though and it was ticked on the build sheet).

To have the parts ordered and fitted at the first service cost including the relevant software updates cost just shy of treble the cost of it as an option (not that I had to pay anything)

New hedlight unit is arround £2000 and controlor unit (if needed) arround £300. Just couldn't find if that price is for "Adaptive" headlight or not. My 2021 GS doesn't have Adaptive Headlight.

Does the key safely in your pocket allow you to open your BMW panniers or top box ? NO

If you away on holiday and have non keyless assuming you have the spare you place it in the ignition and away you go, if you have keyless you do have to stick the plastic spare under the rear mudguard to activate the ignition and then once done for the rest of the trip you cannot relock the steering lock

A standard key takes up less room and when you are on the bike it sits nice and safe in your line of vision in the lock , no worries about it falling out of pockets or in the panniers . Sorry but keyless on a motorcycle is a gimmick that solves issues that never existed and makes BMW a nice chunk of money if or when you need a replacement .

I dislike it so much that I am looking into the cost of removing the keyless from my new bike and trying to get it retrofiitted with a proper steering lock and ignition switch

Does the key in your pocket allow you to remove the sat nav from the locking cradle when you stop ? NO - YES
Does the key safely in your pocket allow you to open your BMW panniers or top box ? NO - YES
Does the battery in a standard non keyless key go flat ? NO because there isn't a battery in it - Battery has lasted so far for 3 years, but do carry a spare one.
Does a key in the ignition with an alarm fob, scratch the bar yokes - YES

By the way I have an RT, you GS boys need to more electronics

I understand the whole key/keyless debate, let’s face it, keys have never really caused most of us any inconvenience in the 30+ years that most of us have been riding.

I too thought it a waste of time, and in so many ways it is, but the small conveniences (leaving ya key in a pocket all day and just jumping on the bike and riding away, rather than searching you helmet/pockets/gloves for where you left it), well, I’m a big fan of the keyless

Why do you only get one key. All cars I have had with keyless ignition came with 2 identical keys, including BMW’s. Could you imagine the comments if the BMW only came with one and a piece of plastic? This is money saving to the extreme.

It only costs about a tenner.

Some have mentioned issues with opening the petrol tank but in the 3 years owning the 1250, I’ve had zero issues with the keyless. I did have to change the batteries twice in this time.

My biggest concern at the start was riding off with the keyless left in the luggage lock or on the seat after a stop, then to fall off in the road whilst riding and getting smashed by a car behind.
Luckily this hasn’t happened because the keyless now stays secure in my zipped jacket pocket and the spare does the rest. If I lose the spare, no probs... I still have the keyless that can do it all.

There is nothing better to just jump on the bike and ride away.
No more fiddling for keys after a stop, gloves on then forget to take key from pocket, gloves off, which bloody pocket from the 20+ on a twatsuit, then gloves on again.
Probably overdramatic but this does happen and worse in winter trying to get wet hands in and out of gloves.

I keep the cut spare key in the tank storage box and when I need to stop and remove the Nav or open the luggage, its just as easily accessible than taking the key out of the ignition.
And no issues locking the steering either, done by a simple push of a button

This,,,,but with the regular spare key (Managed to get the dealer to throw one in for free) on a lanyard which does all the locks, seat, luggage, nav, and then only when touring
16k of miles and the petrol cap worked everytime
Keyless stays in inside pocket....but to be honest getting it out to do the above things isn't exactly tiring or complicated
I love keyless....unless it should go wrong

My biggest concern is that I picked up my key without paying any attention to it. And I actually picked up my mates tin of assorted plastic animals. As I rode away, I noticed the rattling of the assorted plastic animals in the tin and looked down at the TFT, exactly at the same time as a tiny (3mm diameter) meteor struck my left LED turn indicator, starting a chain reaction. The Dash lit up. And i grab a handful of brake. Causing the ASC and AbS to kick in. On a more detailed inspection of said tin of assorted plastic animals, The 3mm Meteor actually hit my Keyless instead :blast

But luckily this has happened yet.
Other than that, I love Keylesssss
