Arai / Shoei head

I have spent years thinking I had an Arai shaped head

My Arai RX7 was, on the SF a bit wobbly at speeding is a bit heavy for a naked bike resulting in an aching neck after a couple of hundred miles although I felt it fitted me perfectly so I started looking at what I might fancy as a replacement

I visited a well known Helmet Emporium to day with a list of helmets with the Bell Race star carbon top of the list

The Bell is a lovely thing but just didnt fit right

I tried on many others including AGV Pista which is a beautiful thing but a bit too race focused with no chance of fitting the Senna and permanently open vents

HJC again not a good fit same applies to the X Lite and the shark

it wasn't on the list as they dont fit me well but I tried on a Shoei X Spirit 3

Wow what have they done - it fits so well so much better that my current Arai

It must just be the X Spirit as the NXR2 felt like all the Shoei I have tried

Parted from some cash I am very happy and it is so light and comfy I expect great things ***

***Probably be as noisy as fuck on the bike

I’ve just gone from 2 successive Shoei’s to a HJC RPHA 70, tested it on a hot, 4 day trip to Italy last week

It’s super comfortable for my head and a lot quieter, the aerodynamics seem better too as there’s almost no buffeting or pressure on my neck

The sun visor is better than the Shoei although the mechanism is not quite as easy to use with gloves on

Overall I’m really pleased with it

The HJC that I tried on (I think it was the 90 or the APH race thing )was actually very impressive - nicely made it just didnt fit quite as well as the Shoei but was the main contender up until I tried the X Spirit

IIRC Scorpion use the same Helmet shape/fit as a Shoei.

I went the opposite way - I was always a Shoei, but then tried an Arai.

I reckon it's like running shoes - for some reason only Asics feel comfortable on my feet.
