I have a 32 gb iPad ,is there anyway to increase the memory in this unit .

In a word no. You can remove the largest culprit which is possibly photo/video also look at your message apps for photos etc.

What he said. Also,32 gab is very little memory these days.

Most annoying thing about iPads is the lack of expansion.
Go out, buy a bigger iPad and give Apple more of your money, as you were meant to.

You are absolutely correct….BUT…they work so well compared to android tablets. I’ve had an iPad Air 64gb WiFi model since sept 2015 and it’s been good up until the last 3 months (due to lack of space). My partner has had 3 Samsung tablets in that time. Mind you, she still thinks I’m the idiot buying an iPad :blast

Apples business model is based on storage, not devices ...you'll need to buy cloud storage or upgrade

I have upgraded my iCloud storage .so if. my pics and videos are on the cloud can I delete them from my pad to free up space on the device and still access them from my iCloud account .

Rovert Im sure there is a setting on the Ipad whereby your pics are a thumbnail on your ipad and when you click on them I cloud drops them down. Something like optimize storage, have a google

Could it be iCloud back up ?

I dont have an ipad but the icloud backup sounds like if you want to back up stuff to the cloud. On my iphone, I put all photos on cloud storage and then delete them off my phone to save the space. It has its pros and cons, like when you quickly want to reply to a ukgser post and need to download the photo first to attach. Look at deleting apps no longer in use.

In a word, YES, is it easy? NO.

You can increase the memory of any Apple device to the DESIGNED LIMIT. I worked in Electronics/Semiconductors for many years and have often seen this come up and at one time had the equipment to do it myself. I won't bore you with the complexities of doing it, you just need the part/skill/equipment and there are places in the UK that will do it. APPLE only sells it doesn't want to offer you upgrades, only it competes with itself. Like others have said about the storage and think of apps/porn/movies that you don't always watch and delete them.

Every IOS update makes it worse because it takes more space and APPLE even admitted that it deliberately added code that affects speed and battery life to 'encourage' users to buy an upgrade, that's why bike manufacturers deliberately design failures into their products so you keep going back and spending..like BMW (or was that observation too controversial - incoming virtual stoning)

So, don't believe this load of bollocks!

The issue is that with how much time/risk/cost you can accept, rather than you just go out and buy a bigger size Ipad. I have an Iphone 6s (my kids think I'm a caveman) as it serves all the functions I need, ran out of memory due to the constant updates (16Gb), so just went and spent another £65 for a higher capacity handset (128Gb), synced and got on with my life.

Example of how it is done here;-

You can add an external HDD from searches I can find.

I need to know how to do that Don. Last time I tried I lost all the photos I thought I'd saved to iCloud, I now seem to have them on iCloud and phone. Will have a Google and if nothing found will start another thread for help :)

Subscribe to one of the smaller (cheaper) iCloud+ storage options. Then in Settings on your iPad , select Photos and then select iCloud Photos

Then select iCloud Photos and the select Optimise iPad Storage

This setup will store all your photos in the Cloud. All that is saved on your iPad are thumbnails. iCloud only downloads the actual full fat photo to your iPad when you open that photo on your device. This all frees up storage space on your device.

Btw this is separate to iCloud Backup of your device, which stores a backup of the other data on your iPad to iCloud

I do pay £6.99 a month for 2TB storage with Apple, the only saving grace is the whole family can use it, I have 24000 photos, 1000 videos and 2000 songs on my iPhone

Cheap Cloud

Or use Microsoft 365. You get a 1TB of cloud plus all Word, Excel etc.

Ipad version called Microsoft 365 Mobile Apps Bundle or similar.

Standard price is £59.99/year.

BUT

if you go for the Family version (£79.99/year) you get 6 users, each with 1TB

BUT (AGAIN!)

available via Amazon (from Microsoft!) for only £50/99/year. I even gave my sister one of the licences, so she pays nothing now, instead of £7.99/month.

If 6 users, that's £8.50/year for 1TB each of Cloud.

And if you can wait/hunt around it is often sold for £39.99 on pre-paid cards from Currys, Argos etc. Setup a search on Hot UK Deals for alerts.

Even better is that you can stack these, so last time the deal was one I bought 3 and have Family 365 until Feb 2025
