I’ve tried a few of the recommendations from this forum but no-one seems to cover both bike and rider repatriation.
Anyone know of a company offering both in a travel insurance policy?

No. You need 3 separate policies. It has always been like this.

1. Your personal travel insurance covers you for illness or injury.

2. Your bike insurance covers the bike if it is damaged in an accident, fire or theft attempt.

3. Your breakdown cover kicks in if the bike breaks down.

Underwriters treat these as separate risks and some will only specialise in one type of policy. Some brokers like Bemoto or Carole Nash will bundle 2 and 3 into a single product. You still have two separate policies.

Thanks for the quick response, that’s what is becoming clearer the more insurers I speak to. I only ask as on a previous trip (2019) I was able to get a dual policy for personal and bike cover but it seems like that has stopped now since covid.

you probably had "personal accident" cover bundled in, which is a 4th type of policy and quite common. It has very limited cover and this is no replacement for full, personal travel insurance. It is only the latter that will give you repatriation of your broken body or corpse if you have an accident or become unwell. There are several tales in this forum of people having the wrong travel insurance when they are in a hospital or morgue in a foreign land.

I’ve just double checked the Bmw warranty & European cover, this will also repatriate the bike, another case of RTFM!! banghead:

What is it that you are trying to insure?

Wessie is correct.

The BMW Motorrad policy will only repatriate you / your motorcycle if your motorcycle suffers a mechanical breakdown and then only under the terms of the policy. In other words, if you fall ill or injure yourself (for example, you slip and fall down the stairs, breaking your leg in the process) or die, there is no cover. To cover yourself for injury, illness or death and other personal calamities (for example your clothes or passport being stolen or the ferry being delayed for many hours) you need a separate and specific Travel policy, of which there are lots available.

Wessie is also correct when he says that there are true stories of bods on this forum buying the wrong policy or thinking that they have brought the right policy, only to then discover, when it’s too late, that they haven’t and they are then stuck or worse. In short, take care and buy the right insurance policy for YOUR specific needs.

Feck getting the policy that suits your needs, go for the cheapest and whinge about rip-off insurance companies when it all goes tits up.

Plenty of companies that offer pickup/drop-off services thru the EU/UK, the problem is trusting an unknown company, picking only based on reputation and being an LTD company. (est £300-600). twice weekly, artics go down to Portugal with 30-40 track bikes for racing and they pick up/drop off if you give them an address.

If all else fails, find a national vehicle hire company and drive it back yourself, they normally add a charge for repatriation of their vehicle or arrange a method of getting you met on the other side. Eurocar and Hertz do it I think. Just be wary of French national holidays, they have a lot of them, scarce to find one then and I know from personal experience that when it comes to having the RIGHT POLICY and the company refusing to support the claim, while stood at the side of the road with my leg ripped open. You then have Hobson's choice! I got all my money back plus some (>£4K), but had to fight for it! If you have a Credit Card take it with you!

Yes, thanks, I got sorted with separate policies, personal travel insurance (as always) & breakdown with repatriation. Thanks again for the replies

Might be worth saying what you got, what levels of cover and what it cost.
Might save someone else from asking.

Thanks, this will be the first Euro trip since Covid so saying that we're looking forward to it is an understatement. We are leaving from Newcastle on the 1st July & heading down to Austria (St.Anton de Arlberg) via the Black forest.

Just to answer requests for Insurance info - travel insurance from "Puffin", Bike is under BMW warranty so breakdown support from BMW but also confirmed repatriation with bank account breakdown cover in case of an accident - (small fee to add).

Trip info just in case anyone is interested? 9 nights including crossings - DFDS Ferry cost = £342 return each including decent cabin and all meals - 3 sharing.

We use an excellent company "Global motorcycle tours" to book hotels and suggest some routes (self guided tour). - cost & trip is tailored to the customer requirements but is always reasonable.
