I have my laptop connected to two monitor screens and use a mouse and separate keyboard rather than the touchpad and the keyboard on the laptop, I normally have the laptop cover closed and use it just like pc.

The cursor has frozen and will not budge, the batteries in the optical mouse are fresh, none of the other mouse controls work- left nor right click nor the wheel. That being so I can’t get into “Settings” and “Devices” to remove and reinstall the mouse (the cursor won’t budge, right?)

I tried using the pad on the laptop, happily the cursor on the laptop screen works fine, went into “Devices”, “Mouse” (on the laptop, that is) but that only allows me to control the speed of the cursor and wheel on the laptop screen, not the monitor screen, where I was hoping to access the mouse and frozen cursor.

What can I do to unfreeze (thaw??:p) the cursor, any suggestions please? :nenau

a mouse needs a tail - use a corded one. Wireless mice are a PITA.

It’s always worked fine before, just packed up when I unintentionally double clicked on “Page back” One odd thing that occurred to me after your comment about a mouse needing a tail is that there isn’t an USB Receiver to be seen anywhere, shouldn’t there be one plugged in somewhere? Or are they supplied with the laptop nowadays ready for use with such cordless mice? :nenau

EDIT: I have looked around in case there was such a receiver that had just dropped out but can’t see one anywhere.

Bluetooth - have you turned this off on the laptop? Hit an F key without realising it? Or blame the cat.

Stand down! Stand down! All stations Stand down!

Relax chaps, (well- Wessie anyway) it turned out to be the HDMI lead from the laptop to the device that allows the use of the two monitor screens,* I wiggled it and pushed it home just a bit more and Bingo! all was well again.

Still intrigued by the apparent lack of a USB receiver plug thingy though. But then again what do I know… :p

And thank you Wessie. :thumb2

* I believe the device is known as a “docking” something-or-other. :) All set up by my daughter, who in current UKGSer parlance “knows stuff” fortunately.:)

Docking bar.

You still have some mysterious juju communication between the mouse and the rest of the stuff. Best not worry about it.

I am that rare thing, a boomer that knows more about this shit than my millennial son. I really hope I do not have to rely on him to keep me connected in my dotage.

who will now start to blackmail you....
I had to laugh at that, she said once that it worried her that I was always watching engineering and machining videos on YouTube and that it would be more normal to watch porn!

I’m saying nowt! :augie :comfort :yelrotflm
