They say they’ve been told to contact me by 3’rd party’s insurers, money is waiting etc. I don’t really know how they got my details and it all sounds dodgy. They are trying to get me to say I have injuries I don’t have etc

How do these things work? What’s the downsides / issues etc.

I do half think I should have rolled around on the floor going ‘ouch’!

Just ignore it, from experience in order to receive any compensation for injuries you need to have a medical first or at least that was the case some years ago. Has your insurance company referred you for a medical re the prang?

These parasites are usually untrained, unqualified buffoons who get paid commission by getting you to sign up to things you don't need, "free" courtesy bike top of the list.

The fact they are trying to get you to claim for injuries you don't have should tell you all you need to know- you could end up pressured into lying to a judge and thus facing a spell behind bars.

Tell them to f-off, if you need the services of a lawyer, find a specialist motoring/biking solicitor with a good reputation and use them.:rob

Take down the company name, the callers name and asked to be removed from the call list. If they call you again its a breach of GDPR and they get hit with big fines.

If the 3rd party has sold your details, without your consent, go after them. GDPR covers you - you need to agree they're allowed to share your details.

I always say - oh great, glad you rang, it was terrible, three people dead plus those two still on life support, it’s so good of you to be able to help.

They normally hang up - don’t know why !

I had the same problem when a van reversed into me, they never stopped calling so I thought I would go through the process and got almost £3k

This. After my accident in 2020, even after admitting liability, the third party insurers had full, unrestricted access to my medical records and I had to undergo a medical examination before we even started to discuss compensation.

Were you injured and if yes did those injury’s affect you in way that requires compensation?

Your post suggests the answer is no and you’re posting in here to get some kind of validation to ease your conscious in going through the process to spin up a claim which in the end all of us that buy insurance will pay for…

They are literally ambulance chasers who have the potential to push up insurance costs for everyone - if you are injured and it affects you then I'd also suggest finding the best representation for your specific circumstances rather than the first shiny suited sales agent that called up...

I was told that the insurance companies themselves sell on the accident data for additional income.
I had a no fault by me in my company car, no claim as it was a company car under self insurance bond and they just repaired it at company expense. I was getting nuisance calls within days of telling my own insurance company which cost me hundreds in enhanced premiums on my own car. I am still getting calls 10 years later and they have no idea about the accident, when, where, how much, if I was injured just want me to start a claim for them from scratch. Thank god for call blocking!

On the other hand … about five years ago my car was written off after a woman who was on the phone smashed into it. I got thoroughly fucked over on the value of my car, and I went back and forth with their assessors without much success (never take their first offer!). He was a decent enough chap but he wasn’t allowed much flexibility so his hands were somewhat tied. He did say that insurance companies have started being really tight on the value of write-offs, in anticipation that most people will file an injury compensation claim. I did genuinely have some whiplash pain for a few weeks, so I claimed. It was a bit of a process, involving a medical, statements and so on, which took about a year, but the end result was about £2k. I was still out of pocket as I got about £5k less than it cost me to replace the car, but it helped.

Insurance companies are bastards

Sorry to hear that, in the end the customer always pays!

Those spinning up and making injury claims impact us all - All we as customers can do is voice our opinion that we think it’s unacceptable and make it seen as an unacceptable thing to do.

Making a spun up injury claim because an accident has given you an opportunity to do so should never become something people can be proud or smart about because as you’ve experienced those people have likely cost you c£5k.

I was sideswiped by a car when overtaking it and went directly to the third party’s insurance.

It all went well and one of the things they asked was were there any injuries. As I didn’t actually come off the bike the only injury was a cracking bruise on my pinkie where I must have rattled it off his door mirror. I wasn’t even going to mention it but he asked.

I told the guy this and after a bit of consultation I got 70 quid :thumb2. Not much but there again I wasn’t really expecting anything.

I’ve had a few thousand before for a broken collar bone and now 70 quid. Never tried to exaggerate the effects of either claim. In the end we all pay for them.

Tell them to Foxtrot Oscar!Unless you have a valid claim for a real injury or loss, in which case use a specialist lawyer.
I got reverse into t red lights, all on camera, no dispute who was to blame
My ins brokers (Bennett’s) were not interested when I refused to allow them to appoint some claim management company!
Other sides insurance Co wanted to do the same.
I refused that also, I told them I didn’t want to pad out the claim as I disagreed with doing it, they still tried stiffing me on a reduced payout.
Almost makes one wish they’d claimed for helmet hitting the floor, tear on jacket etc.

Doing so however would make me sleep less soundly at night, that’s just me, we each have a moral compass…
