Looking for a good winter jacket and torn between these two. Anyone able to offer a comparison or have one or the other they would give opinions on please?

It'll be on a Triple Black GSA so obviously important (to me at least!) to colour match the bike and a little unsure about the Adventure-X in white. Although I do expect to wear this as a winter jackets so the extra colour might be a welcome addition on the darker nights and probably wont look to out of place against the black and chrome of the Triple Black.

RST sizing is, shall we say unique ;)

if your short in the body, they dont do a short option, so the adventure X jacket gets pushed up when you sit on the bike.

The big plastic shoulder pads then clout / restrict your angle you turn your head when doing your lifesaver/ over shoulder checks

other than dropping your shoulders everytime, i couldn't see any way of pulling the feckers off

I have a brand new red/ white one sitting in the cupboard used for about a week because of the issue.

Loads of pockets, zips, pouches etc very heavy too

The Adventure X looks like you can remove the liner (waterproof and thermal bonded) together, so making the jacket a lot more useful in warmer weather and allowing you to decide how to regulate your temperature, I'd get that one and buy a cheap zip up cag from a camping supplier and slip that on over the jacket for the odd shower on warmer days. The other one, the waterproof liner is non-removable so you'll feel really sweaty in warmer weather.

There are some companies that have what the designers think is a good idea - but really isn’t.
The combined thermal/waterproof liner: you are going out on a wet summers day, you want the waterproof liner, but it’s quite warm, so you don’t need or want the thermal part. So the choice is get wet or get really sweaty.
The waterproof liner: you are out on a day of thunderstorms but it’s hot day so the jacket vents are open. The first thunderstorm comes up. You can’t find a bridge or bus shelter. So you have to stop, take your jacket off, put the waterproof liner in or on, then put your jacket back on. All while getting rained on.
Whoever comes up with this stuff doesn’t ride a bike.
I have an RST Adventure jacket and an RST waterproof over jacket a couple of sizes bigger to go over the top. There’s no faffing about, you don’t need to close any of the vents, you aren’t getting wet, and it takes minimal time. It’s the way to go.

Budget allowing, I’d consider the Oxford Hinterland before the Oxford Mondial.

The Mondial’s CE rating is crap (a single A, meaning abrasion resistance up to 28 mph). The Hinterland has an AA rating and a glowing review:

The Lindstrands Transtrand – from Halvarssons – also gets a positive review and has an AA rating. It’s cheaper, too:

Both are laminated waterproofs (they won’t ‘wet out’ in prolonged rain), and they have the benefit of direct-to-body vents.

Went with the Adventure X in the end. What a brilliant (ans mostly) well thought out bit of kit. So far I'm loving it I have to say.
