27,000 miles ago I got this set of Michelin Anakee 3s off Micky. They had belonged to a friend of his who had them in his shed for 5 or 6 years, he sold the bike and the tyres just languished until Micky had them, but then decided to get rid.... I snapped them up and they have been brilliant, despite most folks on here telling me the tyres would conspire to kill me.... down through the Chilterns and Cotswolds to the New Forest, then along the coast to Portland, stayed with a friend on his boat and explored a bit of the Dorset countryside, came home through Hardy country, past the Cerne Abbas giant to Bradford on Avon and back up to Warwick and home, another 765 miles and there is still 1mm tread at the very centre of the now quite squared off tyres. I have a mind to see if I can 30,000 miles out of them, even if it involves canvass. :D

You’ll be fine. The chance of being caught in the rain, in England, is virtually nil.

Pretty sure you're the first person I've heard of who's got 27k out of a set of tyres. Chapeau. :beerjug:

Just recommissioned a1997 build R1200C with only 6k miles from new.

It passed the MOT on 25 year old Michelin Tarmac tyres!

Now replaced with Avon Cobra Chrome.

You have all the best bikes!

Well done Simon (King Rat) :thumb2

They actually came off a 'bike that was being ridden, dropped and scrapped ... because the gear change lever snapped off the spindle flush with the gear case housing. Came from Dec of this parish. I delivered the wheels to North Yorkshire .... you had the tyres :D

Moral of the story .... if you have an Xcountry change the solid gear change lever with a mild steel one from the F650GS :thumb

Done that... one of the first mods! I have a spare too, and handlebar levers!

Good point, must do that. My latest XCountry has Mitas knobbblies on, which look good, and seem not to lack for dry grip, but are probably a bit meh in the wet.

This is the current gear lever, is it an original or one off a F650GS? Someone had sorted the bearing the clutch cover, makes a world of difference.

Not origional Shugie, looks to have been replaced but not sure from what. Looks soft metal as opposed to cast:thumb2

Simply unbolt it, put it in a vice and see if you can bend it by hand..... grease the splines when you put it back on!

Definitely looks like some grease is called for.

Reviving this thread.
My tyres are still going.... 29,000 coming up! I will get them to 30,000 with ease looking at the tread that is left. :D
