For most things, Google translate is pretty good.

A completely bilingual French / English speaker in our office tells me that the free version (good enough for most amateur uses) of this website, offers really good translations.

I’ll give a try, thanks.
I’ve been translating John Le Carré books from french and german into english for a few years (hobby only) and find google translate sometimes throws up some odd translations so I’ll give DeepL a go.

As a professional translator between German and English, I can confirm that DeepL is remarkably good, at least for this language combination and the technical texts I deal with. Still not as good as a human though! I am occasionally asked to do what is referred to as MTPE (Machine Translation Post Editing), that is how I know.

My colleague said exactly the same.

He corrects or edits the DeepL translations, sometimes pages long of technical insurance reports, as we subscribe to the Pro version. He says though that the bulk of the software’s translation is very good.
