New GS for 2023
R 1300 GS
R 1400 GS
M 1300 GS

The shift-cam system remains in place, but BMW will probably allow more displacement through a larger bore - with the same stroke. A Bore of 104 millimeters with a stroke of 76 millimeters, which results in 1,291 cc. The plus 1.5 millimeter to the bore and upcoming Euro 5+ could require a double ignition, which we saw on the boxers from 2003 to 2012.

There is also a new vertical oil sight glass sitting towards the front of the engine.

It seems to have a semi-dry sump, which largely reduces the enormous pressure pulsations of the boxer at high continuous speeds, which can lead to foaming oil. The new housing also indicates a new cooling system. The well known LC boxer of the K50/K51 drew a good two-thirds of its cooling capacity from air cooling. The new one, on the other hand, seems to be completely liquid-cooled, including the cylinders. This allows even more power. BMW is suggesting between 140 and 150 hp with at least 145 Nm of torque.

The aluminum cantilever of the lower engine mount is clearly visible, running forward from the direction of the swingarm bearing. The new frame concept is most likely accompanied by a completely new final drive. In contrast to the old component, the Para lever single-sided swingarm is a complex, rugged affair and even appears shorter than on its predecessor. That may be deceptive, but it would fit in with the general design of the new R 1300 GS, which will be given a new series code. The internal type abbreviation K50 will be followed by rumors of KA1 for the basic GS.

We also see under the front fairing, what seems to be radar adaptive cruise like the current RT has. It makes sense this will arrive on the GS.

We see in the service information, the models of R 1300 GS, R 1400 GS and M 1300 GS. We can assume the R 1300 GS will replace the current K50. The R 1400 GS will replace the current K51. The M 1300 GS could either be an optimised off road variant, or maybe a optimised road variant depending on which they decide. M suggesting performance based.

Calipers seem to be provided by Brembo instead of Hayes.

Akrapovic providing a dual outlet muffler.

If the M1300GS is a performance road variant, I don't see how there is room left for the S1000XR. I suspect the M1300GS may be an offroad-biased Rallye HP replacement... would be brilliant if it came with a 15kg weight saving over the R1300GS.
Will the R1400GS be 100cc more (and probably +20kg over the R13GS) or will it be the same R13 motor with no change in output? (following BMW's car model nomenclature where number no longer equates to engine displacement)

So:
R1300GS = road-biased performance
M1300GS = offroad biased
R1400GS = fatboy ATGNI version ;)

My understanding is 1300gs is standard gs, 1400gs is adventure (no increase in capacity) and m1300 is road biased performance option.

Plenty of room for the XR, its a hoofing bike.

I am not so sure, especially if these suggested numbers are right. With these numbers, the XR would not see which way the GS has gone in 99% situations. And the XR format offers nothing over the GS which is arguably more comfortable due to the more open seat shape.

Makes me laugh all this internet false news that people are giving their expert opinion on.
Let us be honest here, my girlfriend bought a new S1000XR about a year ago and would never even consider a GS of any type, over weight garden gate with not enough power and no beauty is how she describes a GS. Bring one out with 200 bhp and she still would not have any interest. There is room for the XR.

It will be interesting to see if the weight is kept at least the same.
I certainly don't want a heavier bike. I hope they don't chase HP at the cost of the low down grunt which is the GS's forte.
I've got one more big bike left in me, I would like another GS.

Well that looks like a bike in its finished form, rather than a test mule. Maybe we will see it launched later this year after all, as next year is BMW's 100th anniversary, and this is probably its most important bike.

I Guess the new GS is chasing after the v4 multistrada and the M edition to compete with the v4 pikes peak.

If there M-model GS is trying to compete with the V4 pikes peak it will have to be something special.

The gen 2 XR is dull.

Bet the M version is 25k like the v4 pikes peak.

Different bikes

The XR is a 4 pot screamer with a modicum of comfort built in, the GS is an all rounder (the all rounder)

Different audience

Was thinking the same there chief,two totally different engines,both decent bikes in their own way.

Spot on

My guess is that the schedule is still the same - The R 1250 GS in its current form will be produced until May 2023, GSA - May 2024. this means R 1300 GS starts production in June 2023, and R 1300 GSA - June 2024

The existing 1250 is no slouch , more torque than the Multi .
The multi is fast tho but on back road scratching very similar,the XR does not handle as well as either bikes , it’s a straight road rocket . One thing I miss is the torque but the V4 makes up on handling .
