One of France’s wilder areas but very good motorbiking roads.

This jaunt, courtesy of Motorradmagazin 7/22 is reasonably interesting:

My favourite bit of France by some distance.
There's a great ride from Crest to Nyons via Bourdeaux and Dieulefit.
And there is the Vercors to the north. Worth a week of anyones time.

Indeed so.

One tip for anyone going. If (as you should) you take the D roads, parts of the Drôme are very wild and rural. There is not a fuel station every 50 yards. Start the day with a full tank and refill well before the panic light comes on. Similarly, there is not a cafe and bar in every village….. and there is not many villages, either.

They miss out the best road around there which is north out of Die and over the Col du Rousset

The D93 over the Col de Cabre is stunning too

All and any any routes will always miss out something. It’s a recurring theme on these pages.

Col de Pennes was a bit wild but fun last Saturday. :D

But that misses out the whole of this cracking road, My mate says his mate was told it was so good that someone turned around and did it again, five times before breakfast! As you can see it’s a green lined yellow road, which means Michelin says it’s awesome for bikers and not like red roads.

If I could read German, then I might know why the author of the piece in the magazine went the way he did. Maybe he’d done an article before, when he did hoon up the col du Rousset?

However, none of this is important. All the original post seeks to do is to give some bods (who might not know anything about the Drôme) a bit of a heads-up.

If you are a miserable git like me you will be glad to know that there are virtually no Brits to be found there, and even fewer organised tours racing from A to B.

I've been through the area on my way south towards Italy in the middle of August.
Will go through the routes when back in London, and post here, as we've seen some very nice gorges I haven't been before...
