North Yorkshire I believe..
So finally we were able to do our planned trip that we have had to postpone for two years due to Covid. Two bikes and two couples, myself and my other half Emma on my 2013 R1200 GSA, my brother in law John and my sister Brenda on John's 2018 F850 GS. The route was to ride down through France to Toulon using motorways to get the over night ferry to Corsica on the Monday evening.

Route.jpg

Friday 16th Sept Destination Ashford - Mileage 220 miles

We set off from Harrogate, destination Premier Inn Ashford for the night where we would meet the other two for breakfast at 7.00 am before heading to the channel tunnel to make our crossing.

Saturday 17th Destination Troyes - Mileage 300 miles

6.45 am and in they ride and the first thing they said was it's F****ing freezing as it was only about 6 deg. Anyway a bit of time before we could get in for breakfast ( pre booked ) for all four of us so coffee was in order.
7 o'clock comes and in for breakfast only to be told that for those who had booked a full English ( that's all four of us) sorry the chief has shown up. So please have a continental and we will refund the money for the cooked breakfast, which we did. The joys of the premier Inn...

After breakfast we head down the M20 to Folkestone to book in for the 09.20 am train crossing, we had hoped to get an earlier train by sadly not as it only had room for one bike and we wanted to stay together. So sat in the waiting area and consumed some more hot liquids.
A few other bikes from the hotel were also hoping to catch an earlier train to no avail. Anyway boarded the train as planed and off we go.

Our nights accommodation in Troyes was pre booked @ La Maison de Reina. We have stopped here before just not the same B&B, upon arrival and check in we freshened up and walked in to the town centre for a beer or two and something to eat.

Sunday 18th Destination Lyon – Mileage 230 miles

Just a stop over and again having stopped off in Lyon before we decided to have a decent hotel compared to the Ibis we used last time so we were booked in to L'Ermitage Hotel Cuisine-a-Manger Lyon. The view from the hotel is lovely, very good restaurant the rooms are okay.

Monday 19th Destination Toulon – Mileage 240 miles

So the plan was to arrive in Toulon early and get something to eat rather than paying over the top prices on the boat... Well that didn't happen, but we did get down early at the port there is designated bike parking and it's free for those waiting to board the ferry. We walked along the marina and people watched and took it easy until we joined the queues to check in of for ferry. Boarding was pretty uneventful except lots of shouting in French and Italian by the boat crew. Bike tied up and off to find our cabins. A few beers something to eat and that's it for the night dis embarking in Ajaccio at 7.30 am.

Tuesday 20th Corsica

So after dis embarking from the ferry we had time to kill as we couldn't check in to our accommodation until later in the afternoon. So I had pre load some routes for the three days we were on Corsica and we headed off out of Ajaccio ( rush hour ) to arrive in Porto Vecchio where we were staying for the three nights. Temps had dropped quite a bit so we soon found somewhere to stop for coffee.

North Yorkshire to Corsica & Sardinia and back in two weeks.

So after spending three cracking days & nights on Corsica, it was time to head to Sardinia.

From Porto Vecchio we headed south to Bonifacio to catch the ferry over to Sardinia which was about a hours sailing. Bonifacio is definitely a town we would like to go back to and spend some time looking around, so a few pictures of the port and ferry over to Sardinia.

Friday 23rd Sardinia

So for the next three days & nights we are staying in a B&B in Sassari. The ferry from Corsica sailed over to Santa Teresa Gallura on Sardinia. As previous I had already put some routes together for the duration of the trip. We had planned on around 100 miles a day to take in stops for photo's lunch extra.

Sardinia Routes.jpg

We had a few hours ride to Sassari via a stop off at the Elephant Rock which seems to be a must see. Sadly road works by it sort of spoilt the photo.

20220923_145533.jpg

The difference between the two islands is quite noticeable, first impression of Sardinia on the ride down to Sassari was it's flat, dry and quite boring.

So we were booked in to the B&B Via Camillo Benso di Cavour, Sassari. Sassari is a nice town loads to see, plenty of places to eat out. A few pictures...

So Saturday 24th & Sunday 25th we had planned to ride around and do a bit of sightseeing, stopping off to take photo's and places to eat and drink.

One of the must see's was the caves so Saturday morning weather not looking great as the wind had got up and was looking a little overcast we head off it was about an hours ride. Upon arrival we managed to park in the very small car park at the entrance, got changed out of our bike gear seeing we had 600 steps down and back up.
Then we find out that due to the high winds they had closed the caves, not something that they announce by the number of coaches arriving and then having to do a U turn and leave.
A few pictures of what we could see.

So we decided to do the route we had planned for the day heading down the west coast towards the town of Bosa and then head in land and back to the B&B.

One thing very noticeable on Sardinia compared to Corsica was the road conditions. To say the roads on Sardinia need a little investment would be an understatement. A few more from the days ride out to Bosa.

We stopped off at the marina in Bosa for some lunch. On the way back to Sassari the weather changed and storms we on the horizon. Didn't quite make it back to the B&B before we had to stop and don the waterproofs. This would change our plans for the next day....more to follow:

Sunday 25th

Well after waking up to the crap weather and it's poring down with rain we decided that today was not a day to be out on the bikes. We chilled out in the morning as there were signs that the weather would improve later in the day and we would spend some time walking around Sassari and do a bit more sightseeing.

Monday 26th Destination – Olibia (Ferry)

This is our last day on Sasari, and we catch our ferry back to mainland Italy this evening. Rather than just a straight ride there we planned a couple of stop off's and take our time getting to the ferry.

First stop off was Santa Trinita di Saccargia It is one of the most important Romanesque sites on the island. Worth a visit if you are passing but a little under whelming if I was to be honest, but it does have a good little cafe.

Looking on line others had recommended a viewing point in the mountain range so we incorporated this in to our route only to find that bloody road was closed and no way through.

We did a little divert in to a little village / town that had a nice viewing area so we parked up got the jetboils out and had a coffee break. Then went for a ride through the narrow streets.

After arriving at the port John realises that he doesn't have his man bag with him...F**k where the hell is it... ( it has their passports in it ). A little bit of panic and we have a couple of hours before boarding the ferry. John thinks he's he left it at the café by the church. So that's it they are off 1 hr ride back. An hour later we get a message that they have found it and all is well and they are now heading back...We meet up and join the queue for the ferry.

Tuesday 27th Destination – Beckenried, Switzerland via Monza Mileage 240 miles

So the ferry crossing wasn't too bad, got fairly lumpy around 3 o'clock in the morning. Our planned trip for today was to head towards tonight's accommodation at Seerausch Swiss Quality Hotel with a stop off at Monza. We planned on doing a tour of the race circuit complex but it would mean we had to sit around and wait for 2 ½ hours for the next tour.

Knocked this on the head had something to eat and then headed off to our hotel for the night on the shores of Lake Lucerne. The hotel was very good has a great restaurant with views of the lake.

Tomorrow...Stuttgart & The Porsche Museum...

Wednesday 28th Destination – Stuttgart Mileage 150 miles

An uneventful ride to Stuttgart other than the weather is crap, it's cold and wet. Nothing planned for Stuttgart other than meeting a work colleague for a evening meal. We checked in to our hotel Kronen Hotel Stuttgart, which was great a few minutes walk from the town centre. We got a free upgrade to a very nice room.

This made the next days ride to the Porsche Museum nice and easy being ½ hr away.
