R1150GS ... they still have "it", don't they?

A bit like the Millennium Falcon ... not a garage queen, a bit battered and bruised, but it's how I like it :okay

when they get like that , you aren't precious with them. they are a tool.

Twizzle saw mine , he said , " i thought your bike would look like that " . it's used , lives outside , gets washed once a year whether it needs it or not . got a friend to ride it the other week , he said if you didn't look at the mileage , you would never know how old it is .... sent him out for half an hour with a full tank ....came back 2 hours later , half empty tank. told me he was doing me a favour , and that was the price.

Knew somebody would start a thread like this, want another R1150 GS now :blast

Come back into the light, you know it makes sense:rob

Back in 2004, choice was (thankfully) far more limited. Only enlightened eccentrics rode GSes. In this photo I count 13 1150s, one new-fangled 1200, one 1100 and a solitary F650 interloper.

Pre Ewan and Charlie, en route to the Elan Valley. Dennis, Kostas, 2WheelHumvee and Ming all feature

Gosh that’s 8 bikes ago :D
I had some great times on my 1150 Adv and probably because of it made some very good friends, do I miss it? Not a bit I’ve had 7 GS mostly Adventure models and enjoyed them all they all offered something slightly different yet something very familiar, best of the lot ? 1200GS Rallye, I fancied a change so am on my second Ducati Multistrada and a change was it I got, no regrets, enjoy adding the miles to yours Dave :thumby:

Still brings a smile after nearly 20 yrs

My old girl. With her current stablemate. Very easy to ride at a good pace dry or wet :). More so than the AT.

Helga is an ABS-2 non servo bike, I'm told that this is the best batch of the lot, & has gone in for some work this autumn: time for a WILBERS shock rebuild, replacement front wheel (rattly brake dics on the old wheel due to elongated bolt holes) and new engine bars by SW-MOTECH after a couple of low speed drops in stupid lanes :blast

]

The elongated holes problem can the improved or maybe solved by fitting thin washers behind the bobbins. These washers are standard on some K series model(s). I don’t have part number to hand.

Thanks for that. Will look into it, although my tecchie thought it was a terminal case. I've tried doubling up on the wavy-washers which cured the rattle for a time, but in the meantime sourced a replacement wheel in good nick at a reasonable price.

I'll ask around about the bobbins, if I locate a set it meanbs I have a useable spare wheel, so thanks again for the info:beerjug:

I've tried a few of the GS range through the years but always preferred my 1150 when it came to the ride home - horses for courses I guess (... I understand the best of the bunch since the 1150 was the 1200 GSA twin cam between 2010-2013, but you may disagree?)
Recently tried an R1250 RT as you know and various other bikes (even sat on an Italian device:eek:) but I guess I'm too set in my ways, so the 1150 continues as weapon of choice :thumb

Very much like me
I owned an early 1200 GSA for a while - but sold it as I prefer my 1150’s
Tried all manner of newer GS and on the ride home from the dealers, prefer the bike I had
Only bike that I have bought recently was a Tenere 700, not at the loss of selling the 1150’s though
I find it quite similar to a 1150 in a lot of ways - simple bike, no modes or electronic aids and a torquey engine

Riding her now for 21 years…:thumby:
And agree…after test riding the 1250 GS I really enjoyed returning to my 1150GS..;)
Fits like a glove, ;)
Thoroughly enjoy this thread…more pictures please…..

The Last Of The Best Of BMW

Or so it is said...

I had two 1150's across a 10 year period and loved them both... Moved on, mistakenly, out of boredom and curiosity, to a 1200... ho hum..

But.... I always hankered after an 1100 when they first came out but couldn't afford one by some distance... This fell into my lap a few years ago and it still surprises me how good it is. Must have been amazing back in 93 /94...
