R1150GS ... they still have "it", don't they?

R1150GS ... they still have "it", don't they?

Got my 1150 back in 2006- sat on it at the dealers and bought without riding it. When taking it home I thought had made a massive mistake- slow, vibrates like mad and wobbles from side to side at traffic lights. First weekend in the lakes though and was hooked.

Been all over France, Austria, Germany and Italy on mine prior to buying a 1200adv in 2009 when that took over European tours. It got neglected and forgotten for a bit, then started taking it for days out. Both are sat next to each other in the garage. The banana has 67k on it now and the 1200 77k. Mechanically they are both fine, but the 1200 is a lot more cosmetically challenged, they don’t make them like they used to.

Just needs a Maxton shock on the 1150- got one in the 1200 and it transformed it.

Of the two, the 1150 is what I would get out of the garage first. I love it and would never sell it. I keep window shopping at something newer and sparkly but as soon as I throw a keg over it, the banana wins me over every time.

….I remember one review describing a cold ride through a village in Scotland one foggy morning, and with heated grips on, the engine doff-doffing gently, felt like an old friend guiding them. Fully agree with that sentiment.

That’s a perfect description

What's the mileage, just out of interest?

In the Ardennes as we speak!

Currently in the middle of riding nearly 1,000 miles Between UK and France on a long weekend (ie back in sunny UK later today!)

The Bavarian Behemoth has been great and I wouldn’t want to be riding anything else for such big mileage… there’s also the feeling that if anything goes wrong, we should be able to fix it with a local mechanic

Look forward to many more trips and happy years with the bike

Got a letter from Datatag last week regarding a new owner wishing to change the Datatag to their name, I sold the bike in 2011 after 9 years of ownership and know it has had two owners since then.

Bike was a 1999 T plate and according to the original supplying dealer the 113 th bike off the production line and intended to be a demonstrator bike but they had someone come into the shop with a pile of cash (paying over the list price ) who was desperate to get a GS.

He paid for the bike and it was registered and then sat at the dealers for 4 months before he collected it and then did under 3000 miles in the following 3 years before part exing it at Mill Sunderland for a new 1150 GSA .

Wonder if anyone on here now owns it ....... Mandarin Yellow GS regd nos T334SPT

I'd have an 1150 GS or a GSA, but when I came to buy my 3rd Rockster, the GS I tested was (iirc) about 3 grand more expensive, with 10 times the mileage! So I stuck with a Rockster! :D (the only real difference is ground-clearance and riding position).

R1150GS ... John Gemi chip inside .....

Here’s my recently acquired 99k mile ‘Flying Banana’. A wonderful bike and a tribute to it’s 1st owner. I have recently fitted a John Gemi 13R chip and modified the Cat box to John’s specifications. I must say that this set up has absolutely transformed the torque, with the overdrive 6th now a ‘gear for all occasions’. Furthermore, the top end is huge would you believe, should you need to impress the odd Superbike jockey, as we all know how well these classics handle! And best of all, John has just developed his No14 chip for these machines. Just sayin’ ........:)
