R1150GS ... they still have "it", don't they?

Here’s my recently acquired 99k mile ‘Flying Banana’. A wonderful bike and a tribute to it’s 1st owner. I have recently fitted a John Gemi 13R chip and modified the Cat box to John’s specifications. I must say that this set up has absolutely transformed the torque, with the overdrive 6th now a ‘gear for all occasions’. Furthermore, the top end is huge would you believe, should you need to impress the odd Superbike jockey, as we all know how well these classics handle! And best of all, John has just developed his No14 chip for these machines. Just sayin’ ........:)

Sent you a pm Brodie

B#gger will have to stop looking at this thread, really making me think about selling my low mileage TDM 900 and getting another r1150gs

One of mine

That’s my ideal spec/condition GSA.....congrats to JB

Had it from new, ordered to my exact spec (Silver, with Silver engine, non ABS and Ohlins at both ends were fitted, at PDi as it came of BMW's shipping crate)

37k up now and still like new from the showroom in 2005

R1150GS ... they still have "it", don't they?

How; just how have you managed to keep it that clean; lovely bike JB;:beerjug:

Patience/Committment...........and a Workbench, plus the right cleaning products

Seriously, for the first 5-6 years it did everything - days out, trips in Europe and UK (rain or shine) and some moderate/easy offroad in Europe, in the alpine areas - but no commuting or winter use

Now it only comes out on sunny days in summer, as it's my favourite bike and I use my other 1150 for trips/touring - although that's not in bad nick for 67k

Was that Jim McS's old bike ?

It is
A credit to Jim’s ownership for 13 years,since new
I have put 15k in it, since buying it
Tip Top is the bike - all I have had to do is swinging arm pivot bearings (but Jim gave me a new set) and just had the cam chain tensioner upgrade and new L/H inlet manifold this year

Mine's for sale, for anyone feeling nostalgic.

For the new price of £5k ono

I may even start a for sale thread once I've cleaned it.

Well went to look at a 1150 today , described as in good condition for it age ( maybe if it had spent the last 10 years in a leaking shed) corrosion of fork leg bottoms, fork brace, engine casings, gearbox, final drive, wheel hubs ,exhaust, spokes , rear sub frame, some dubious wiring visible running from handlebars and around the headstock with no wrapping left on it, split heated grips etc and would not start it up for me to listen to as it was inside .
Then wasoffered half of the value of my current bike and price on the gs was fixed.
NO THANK YOU ,, a 250 mile round trip but I now know what I do not want condition wise

I'd have been grateful of a leaking shed, mine has spent 18 YEARS living under a cover on my forecourt ... wash it after every salty winter ride, plenty of WD40 sprayed all over, still looks OK. But no Garage Queen ...:nenau
