I had the original 600 Hornet in 1998 and it was brilliant.
This looks to be a belter on paper.
Cheap too.

Luggage options too

I like the white with red frame

Looks like a surefire winner on paper. It amazes me that journos don’t feel it necessary to quote fuel consumption figures in this day and age.

It's often said the lazy fekkers just cut & paste straight out of the press pack, so it's just down to what Mr. Honda is prepared to divulge at this stage

I think this is the same motor that’s going to be used in the New Transalp .
Maybe with a different mapping for torque , and probably slightly less total HP .
If the new Alp comes with tubeless tyres I may buy one :thumb2

having had all models of the hornet apart from the 07 on

be interesting to feel what a 90hp twin will be like

sad about the four but think that most wont bother with them now

if they did the yellows frame and forks with the other colours.............

That looks spot on for the money; with that power to weight ratio it could probably give the MT09 a run for its money never mind the MT07; Honda could be on to a winner.:okay
I dont think they will stay that cheap for long.

I don't believe we'll be getting the Hornet but I'm looking forward to the Transalp version, and like boatman if they fit tubeless wheels I may trade the Tenere' 700 on one. I kinda doubt they do though because the CRF 1100 still has inner tube wheels.

1998 CBR600 Hornet

My 1998 Hornet was a thing of beauty. I loved the soft-tuned CBR600 motor and that beautiful upswept pipe with the stainless heat shield. Loved that bike; part-ex'd it against a new R1150GS (which I still own).

My bike was bought by a lad who worked in the showroom at BMW, unfortunately he span it out and threw it down the road within a fortnight and wrecked it.

Not so sure about the new Hornet; it's so different from the original (in particular, inline 4 chucked in favour of a twin) that it really needs a new name, but having said that I expect Honda will sell a shedload at that price.

Your 600 Hornet looks a lot like the 2007 919 I had, did Honda sell the same bike as a 900 Hornet there as well?

Yes, although the 900 came later than the 600, used a soft-tuned Fireblade IL4, mate of mine had one here in the UK, that thing could hustle:eek:

Here's my 1998 Hornet.
An excellent piece of kit.
Should have kept it really.

This bike has a good price here in Portugal also, in fact it is remarkably cheap.
I was looking at it a couple of weeks ago, as I was perusing the Honda website for information on the NCX750...The BHP was putting me off, but the headliner on the main page was the new Hornet, so I looked at the specs.

Bit of a deal really, 94BHP, 198KG and all the other stuff that is probably reliable, as it is Honda...Could be a fun bike I reckon...Looks like shit as all new bikes do, but you can`t see it when you are on it, bit like a fat bird.

Honda are certainly pricing the Hornet aggressively compared to a NC750X, they likely are able to due to it being manufactured in less expensive labour markets than Japan. Others such as Triumph however seem to get top money for their bikes manufactured in Thailand rather than pass on the savings, so thank you Honda.

The problem for me is that it’s a parallel twin, like everything else these days, and for some inexplicable reason I just can’t get excited by parallel twins

Don’t know why, I’ve had a couple and they were OK but I just think this should be a 4 pot

I recently traded my Z900rs but the engine in that was an absolute peach, it reminded me why Japanese across the frame 4s conquered the world

I kind of agree lead but there's certainly benefit to using parallel twin motors for motorcycles including narrow width and being easy to manufacture. Add balance shafts and 270 degree firing order and there's a lot to like.

Exactly .
Take the KTM 790/890 motor . It’s a cracker .
I reckon the Hornet will be brilliant.

The waiting lists will be epic.
