Kreiga bags on a Himalayan

Cheers Pete

I also plan to get the LOMOS small bags for the crash bars, and fit a GIVI top plate (with beefed up rear carrier) for my existing 30L Trekker box.

I don't want metal panniers so these soft bags look a sensible option.

look at rhinowalk bags too

built same way as kriega but far cheaper - buckles and straps all the same

inner bag zipped in rather than velcroed in about the only difference

found out about them after id bought a kriega :D

the lomo are ok but you dont get fixings with them (theyre not really for bikes)

Never heard of Rhinowalk - seem incredible value:okay

Rhinowalk do look good. Here's a review of the large Lomos. They are designed for use on our bikes though. My only concern about the large ones is proximity to the exhaust and possible damage to the vinyl.

And the throw over panniers which are a bit shorter and maybe safer with the Himmy exhaust.

I thought Lomo were made in Scotland i was surprised to see the made in China tag; unless that's just the materials and the bags are still made up your way.

No, I suspect they're made in China to Lomo's spec and then imported and sold on. Globalisation innit?

I've saved a bit of wonga buying Micky's bike which already has some useful additions included. So rather than scrimp I'll be buying the best I can afford. If that's Kriega then I'll go with that :thumb2

I have used very similar Kreiga and Rhinowalk bags on the same trips to compare and have found very little if any difference in functionality and durability with 100% wateroofing on both.

I was ‘given’ the Royal Enfield metal panniers, as a part of the deal to buy my Himalayan. To me, it’s more about being flexible, rather than saying soft luggage is better or worse than hard. It’s a point Micky makes in the thread hotlinked below.

By luck, nothing more, my BMW branded soft bags and / or my Krieger bags (none of which are ‘pannier style’) also fit on the bike. I can therefore chose which suits me best on the day for any jaunt I am on. Whether that’s RE’s boxes or the BMW bags or the Krieger, will be up to me.

You're causing me pain too Dave :D

I have a pair of Kriega US20 bags that will fasten together to convert to throw overs. Had them many years, never used them on the Himmy .... but now need frames for a CT125 Hunter Cub :blast

Will wait while I get the 'bike and make something myself. I travel light, don't need much!

Those panniers you provide a link for in your first post look great .... will suit a Himalayan :thumb
Kriega stuff is top quality without a doubt :thumb

I had to Google CT125.

Some great suggestions (thanks to contributors) on here but I keep returning to the Kriega set, they look really good I think, as well as being high quality.

If you take the plunge, please let us know how well they fit and what you can get in. (Sleeping bags etc)

Do the canvas panniers that RE sell as military panniers fit the Himalayan frames? I had a set on my 500 when I purchased it and shock horror, they’re a reasonable size and waterproof when tested with a hosepipe for about 10 minutes. I also tried filling the roll top liners with water to see if they leaked and they didn’t.

With a roll bag on the rack they’ll give me enough capacity for a week away camping which equates to about 2 weeks when using hotels.

I guess you mean these Andy? I'm sure they will fit ...
