Hello,

I am changing my alternator.

There is the thick red wire which is bolted onto the upper stud.
There are the two smaller wires connected to the lower white nylon plug.
But there is a thin brown wire floating nearby which has a tag that would fit onto the red wire connection.

Is this thin brown wire to be connected with the red or does it connect elsewhere?

Thanks any knowledge much appreciated

Brown NEVER connects to a Red Directly !¬!!Brown is Earth on a BMW !

You will burn up your loom !!!!

The brown wire with a ring terminal is probably the Earth for the ECU just behind the alternator it just goes on one of teh big start screw bolts

You should have a blue wire on a spade terminal just beside the Main M8 ring terminal ???
