Hi Guys

I am using my 1150GSA for commuting, even in the rain and it’s becoming annoying not having a top box…

This has come up on ebay:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/23478628...WeAt1RJToW&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

I know it’s a “1150GS” ready to go top box and rack… but does it definitely not fit our 1150GSAs?

I don’t mind it not looking “adventure”, I just need a top box and to be fair, this would go with my GS panniers

Steptoe - with your help, is there any way we could get this to fit?

Thanks all and ideas / experience welcome

Anything can be made to fit

This is slightly different but sure will fit as well and looks tidier!
Advantage of these OEM tops is they usually take a full face helmet…

Or go the full Monty adventure style….
Trax set from Janes Sherlock

See Motorworks

All pretty simple and straight forward to fit
Best luck …

Thanks Alba

So we are basically saying that yes, you can fit the 1150GS box and plate on the 1150GSA

It’s not perfect and may need a bit of work, but it is doable?

Just waiting on Steptoe and will go from there

Thanks

Guys

To close the thread - JB and Steptoe have confirmed that no, it doesn’t really fit and by the time you add the cost of trying to make it fit… you might as well have bought a top box that naturally fits! (Ie there is no “easy” way to make it fit)

So it’s now back to trying to find an actual 1150 GS Adventure top box for commuting (and can take a helmet in it)

TBH I've always been slightly disappointed by BMW top-boxes - I fitted the 115RT box to my Rockster once, then discovered the internal shape was really unhelpful and it wouldn't fit any modern helmet at all.

The 'actual-box-shape' ADV unit is probably far better.

I can fit all my varied crash helmets into my 1150RT top-box

Try to find a 1150 GS Adv Kappa/Shad/Givi top box plate (they are all the same)
Then you can have a variety of their top boxes
Perhaps Bumot have a top box and carrier ?

Ok
Didn’t know about SHAD - thanks for letting me know

Hi JB

Finally found a thread so the definitive answer and tested by owners on UKGSER

https://www.ukgser.com/forums/showt...nting?highlight=BMW+1150+gs+adventure+top+box

For all those looking at this in the future, you want a Givi top box plate “E251”

Hence that’s the one I’ll be ordering.

Have someone interested on the bike but both of us are 50:50 I think. I would love the extra power of the 2010-2012 GSA (last of the oils heads) but I would not love the bills related to owning one whenever it’s mechanics fail, which seems far more often than the 1150. Yes yes 1-2 owners never had any issues, but you only have to start looking at adverts and invariably everyone has done a host of gearboxes / final drive / starter motors / insert here the many 1200 GS issues.

Hence the thinking to stick to my trusty 1150GSA.

Although the extra power of the 2010-2012 GSA would be nice. Arghhhhhh!

Keep the 1150! :D
I’ve never found it underpowered at all. :nenau Can’t think why you’d need more power with the way the roads are nowadays. You’ll just get yourself into trouble faster! :D
