Has anyone used Lancashire Sport Repairs for a zip replacement?

https://lancashiresportsrepairs.co.uk/

I’d had a couple of zip issues with my winter sleeping bag but this week it completely gave up when I was at Strontian so I need to either fix it or get a new bag and good quality 4 seasons bags are not cheap but I don’t want to give someone a fair lump of my hard earned wedge for it to end up a waste of time.

It’s a Macpac Sanctuary down bag rated for extreme use and a similar quality bag would cost me something north of £500 because I bought the XL one that allows me to bury my skinny frame right inside it so I’d sooner not bin it.

They did a very good job of replacing the zip on my Goretex jacket, so a sleeping bag zip should be easy for them.

did the dog refuse to cuddle up to you?

Obviously not.

Well that’s a good enough endorsement for me.

Thanks for the helpful reply :D

Andy, I should think just about any competent seamstress could replace a zip of a suitable length into a sleeping bag.

Abdul, in my local dry cleaners, might not be big on conversation but he’s a dab hand at the Singer.

Is zip totally knackered or would one of these fix it?

The zip slides up and down perfectly but as soon as you put even the slightest pressure on it when zipped closed it pops open. It had done it before but this time it’s not holding at all and letting go when you’re camping in Scotland between Xmas and New Year is bad news. I was lucky I’d finally got there using my truck so had a big coat I could put over the top so stayed warm but if I’d been on the bike with very wet gear I’d have been in a bad spot.

I might be able to fix it but because it’s my winter bag I’d sooner pay to get a new zip that opens and closes from both directions.

Andy many years ago we were in Gaynors outdoor shop in Ambleside. My pal had some gore-tex Klim pants inc zips he wanted shortened. We asked about specialist gore repairers. The guy there said they send all repairs to Lancashire Sports Repairs.

The mod to the length and the zip re positioning was first class, so I would recommend them

I’ve had a look at a few other reviews but asking here is always a good place if you want a truthful answer rather than some made up bullshit so I reckon LSR can have the job as long as they’re not too busy to do it.

I’ll leave this open then report back when it’s done.

Rab website says they charge £30 for a zip replacement so might be a guide. Unfortunately only for their kit as suspected

These folk seem to work with big companies

Their prices seem comparable with the place in Burnley so more than acceptable.

If it was a Rab or Mountain Equipment bag it would go back to the manufacturer but I had to go and buy a MacPac one didn’t I? What this has prompted me to do is get the Helly Hansen bag I own properly cleaned because it doesn’t have a zip to break but it’s absolutely honking after being used underground on caving expeditions a number of times where I simply got into it with a damp fleece under suit on so the actual loft of the down is non-existent these days :D
