Well, I have spent 2 days trying to get the y-piece and tail pipe to fit the R80GS.... for nearly £800 I have to say I expected a better fit and better welding. The stress and heartache is not worth it... with the silencer hanging on the very tail end, rubber mounted bolt the next one back is nearly an inch adrift from the bracket, the pillion hanger bracket is 3 inches away from the pannier stay that was perfectly aligned on the standard silencer bracket. The welds are bloody aweful, thin and look like candle wax has been dribbled in the gap.

To say I am thoroughly disappointed would be an understatement. I have half a mind to send it all back and buy a new, original silencer and collector box. :help

You could try - https://www.boxxerparts.de/index.php?cPath=45_15

Thanks - but they are not standard copies for the silencer and will be even more expensive.

didn't have a problem with mine, are you sure you've put it on properly?

Well, if you mean have I lined it up with the rear bolt and seen that every bolt hole forward of there gets out of whack with the bracket.... I have hit it with a piece of wood to shift it forward as best I can and managed to get the bottom bolt in, the one just behind the rider's footpeg, where it joins the y-piece. With the two end ones, in but both at opposing angles to squeeze them in, the middle bolt hole cannot be seen through the hole of the bracket whatsoever. It is a good inch out. The pannier bottom stay is miles out, like about 3 inches! How 'not properly' could that be?

Weird, plenty of them destroy that ( expensive ) rubber mounting at the very rear. Although not really needed TBH. For £800 I'd send it back and fit OE.

If I could find an original I would. Motorworks/Bins don't have them. Only more Keihans, which I have now heard from quite a few people that they also had awkwardness. It is on and not leaking, but not properly hung on all three bolts, just at each end. I have to admit I did expect it to just line up with the frame mounts and slide on. Maybe I was expecting too much? If I had the down pipes as well, which I will have to have at some stage, it would have been over £1000. I am quite happy to be proved wrong and it fits perfectly, if anyone thinks they can see a way I have done it wrong.

My genuine silencer has never lined up with all of the mounts.

For what it’s worth I’ve been using Hattech exhausts for headers and y pieces and they are superb quality

Some pictures to help aid the thought processes.... I have sent them to Keihan asking for help.

The keihan y piece was so loud on an R100GS, I couldn't stand it. It seemed to affect fuelling/smoothness too. Original collector box is much better.

Are you sure that is not the G/S pipe??

I have no idea. It is what I was sent for my bike, 1988 800GS paralever. If it is, then maybe the brackets will line up better - but I was told they are the same except for the length of the tail pipe.

Great. Find me one! It is nice and mellow, but then I don't think the Scorpion on the X Country is loud at all, other people say it is so loud they can't ride with it on. 350hp of Japanese 4 through an open mega, now that is so sharp it makes your ears bleed if you are too close, or are not wearing ear defenders!

Thanks, but that is a used, rusty one. It will go through in a year, I bet. The one I have taken off is about the same condition. The y-pipe I have got on runs fine, a bit hotter than the collector and at the silencer. I would put a new, original on if I could find one, but there are none, only used ones.

I’m with the good Dr, that looks like the G/S pipe.

You need part no 18121338809

Scrub that - you do have the correct part.
