Bugger , just realised that the Tourance's on the bike have made in Germany on the sidewalls so checked the production dates and one is 2010 and the other about a year later. So despite having loads of tread depth they will be going to the tip.

New Tourance Next tyres ordered online and will have them fitted before I put the bike back on the road at the beginning of April

BMW tank badges due tomorrow and I have the tank stickers ,new tyres due on Wednesday ,seats will be ready for Thursday and hopefully fitted by Friday so will get it taxed for 1st of April and on the road

just need the seats back, still cannot understand why BMW didn't do a popping colour like this back when they were current

No, my personal preference but I never thought the 1150 series suited the beak extension

That looks brilliant, always liked red on bikes. Looking at that makes me miss my 1150GS so much:(, ah well, must get on with bonding with my little X Country:thumby: Cheers:beerjug:John B4
p.s. you used to get red seats for these too, possibly the wrong shade for that stunning paint job though.

It is the fault of this bloody forum that I bought another 1150 after an 11 year break , this one was built on the same day as my mandarin yellow one so it is as close as getting it back albeit with 1/3 of the mileage. Glad I went with the Racing Red as it stands out , unlike my R1250GSA Triple Black everywhere you go the car parks are full of the bloody things .

I have gone for black seats but with a reprofiled riders seat and gel insert and a basket weave pattern cover like my old 1150

Back in 2012 i bought my mates 2000W silver 1150 when he upgraded to the last of the twin cams. It only had 30k on it, but shortly after I got it the input shaft sheared. Took me a good year+ to find a good sh box for it, by which time I’d decided to get rid and stick with my old 850. But I always said I was going to paint that one red like my 850.
Yours is starting to look great, but two things you might want to consider, New brake lines unless there already done, and split the gearbox to regrease the splines. There won’t be much factory grease left if its never been apart.

I have changed the lines and rebuilt both front and rear calipers with new seals and pistons, have also regreased the shafts . My old one sh*t its gearbox in a grand style about 18 months after I sold it and I got roped in helping to fit a used gearbox so I am prepared and have a 2004 evo gearbox sitting in the garage that is very cosmetically challenged but low miles ready to be overhauled

That paint looks wonderfully thick, it gives it a real quality feel.

Told the lad who did the paintwork that I didn't want a glass like show paint job but wanted a good thick coat with a decent shine that will be durable

Took off the hepco and becker crash bars as the top front mount was within 1-2mm of the tank, thought they might be bent but having downloaded the fitting instructions it looks like whoever fitted them did it wrong.

The bars should mount so they are sandwiched between the frame and the clock/light mounting subframe , whoever fitted them mounted them on the outside of the subframe bracket pushing the crashbars out towards the tank.

Will get them powder coated in sating black and then refit them correctly

Well seats still not ready and when I dropped off the crash bars to be powder coated I got a bit of a shock , prices have gone up by a massive amount since last year when I got ones done . Powder coaters say their electricity bills have trebled and coasts of powder etc have gone through the roof .

Well at least I got gearbox oil at a decent price and changed it this afternoon, so once the seats turn up we are ready to go

They needed doing - Hepco & Becker "powder coat" is about as durable as chocolate...

Just remembered how ridiculous the angle of lean is on a GS on the sidestand even with new pivot bolt and bush, on my old GS I used the Adventure stand and back then they were buttons off E Bay.

Decided to modify an old GS stand I had in the shed, the new extension is solid bar and turned on the lathe a stepped section fits snugly inside the old stand and I will weld it and the cut and chamfer it for the best height and angle of lean.

The blue line on the extension is standard GS length to the sidestand foot , the purple is GSA

Lengthened sidestand fitted and the crashbars are back from powder coating and fitted properly so they do not foul the tank.

Just need the seats back !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If they are not ready tomorrow I will be seeing if anyone has an old set I can borrow or buy cheaply to get it back on the road.
