A local pub was hosting a VMCC classic bike show today. I spotted this 650 Interceptor based on a Kawasaki ER5 frame and tank. The frame was chosen as the builder thought the frame was very similar to the old Rob North frames used on racing triumphs years ago.

It looks better in the flesh, I'm not in the 'Giles' camp regarding photos. The bloke who built it has also done a Triumph T140 using the ER5 frame and tank. The sign on the tank is GJG his initials, although I cant remember his name now (old age I suppose). He and his son build quite a few specials based on RE's as the son until recently worked for the importers and so had access to heavily discounted parts.

It is nice, but kinda odd to use that frame over the stock Harris frame?

There's a breaker somewhere in the Liverpool area that specialises in ER5s and Suzuki 500s, he gets the frames (with V5) for around £35.

It looks very well put together but that frame looks wrong for the engine, at first glance I thought wtf, those are massive crash bars. A solution to a problem that nobody else has?

You can just about see that in the photos parked next to the R.E.

Got any photos of the T140 Al ?

That's nicely done. I suppose the 'oil tank' is a dummy? (battery box maybe?) The Reynolds 531 sticker is a bit cheeky though!

The oil tank is fake, he deliberately has some oil in showing low on the indicator, and has put slivers of silver in it to look like it's picking up in the engine :D

There were a few other bikes that caught my eye.

I think the little Kawasaki is sweet, I'd like to have a '70s trail bike in the garage, they had proper seats back then. The Suzuki 'chain' rat bike hhmmmm, very different but not my cup of tea.
