Good to see folks again. Thanks to whoever for booking us in.
On the way home I explored a bit, the road from RAF Syerston homeward was closed, but I ventured down anyway and got through quite happily. They are laying new water mains and the road, for about a mile or more, was 1/2" deep in soft mud, which on my reasonably well worn tyres made me cautious, but in fact they gripped perfectly happily the way I was riding, gingerly!
I went down a lane signposted 'Stoke Ferry', I thought that sounds like it used to be a ferry point and should be by the river. Indeed it was and it looks across to Shelford, which name has metamorphosed from 'Shallow Ford' where they used to drive the cattle across. That was expanded into a ferry line boat system of crossing with several boats working at the same time. I came back up the lane, there are concrete blocks to stop 'traffic' going down to the river, but a motorbike isn't 'traffic'.
Over Gunthorpe bridge and into parts of Nottingham I didn't know existed.... I could have done with Andreas to guide me through. I followed the pink line and it led me through the city centre, which is closed ot traffic, I stopped when I saw the blue sign saying buses and bicycles only.... lost without a clue where I was. Along came a policeman in his car and he stopped at my hail and gave me directions to follow to the ring road. Phew. What a nightmare city traffic and riding is.
I escaped the pergatory of the built up area and found myself approaching Pidcocks, so I called in for a mug of chocolate. As I drew up the plinth for 'pride of place' was empty. so I parked on it. They haven't had such a good motorbike gracing their pedestal for many years.
While I was in there I asked about brake pads for the little gem - NLA apparently. Mr. Ferodo or EBC it is then.
I got home about 15.00 having had a good ride through the smaller roads from Castle Donnington to Willington, Hilton, to Tutbury and home.
Only another 250 miles to go to get these tyres to the 30,000 mile mark.
