Afternoon all.

I’ve managed to pick up a subframe what I believe is for an R80GS-PD. My intentions were to fit it to my R100GS-PD with a solo seat to remove the need for two luggage racks, as I’m not keen on the appearance.

Does anyone have any photos of how the luggage rack fixes to the subframe beneath the seat? I don’t own the luggage rack for this specific subframe but considering buying one if I can see how it works.

See photo for reference (not my bike, that’s the one it came from).

Cheers.

First of all you may have a bit of work to do to fit a G/S subframe to a GS Paralever. The right hand supporting strut of the paralever subframe ‘kinks’ outwards to clear the shock absorber. The G/S subframe is straighter. The rack that makes the G/S single seat fit the subframe instead of the dual seat has two arms protruding forward and the two bolt together and are lifted off as one unit like the dual seat. The single seat of the GS is independent of the extended rack which in itself is bolted to the subframe. I’d love to show you pictures but I haven’t got any. You might be better off cutting and shutting your original subframe to the shape you want and then fabricating new mudguard mounts.

If that subframe is off a g/s I wouldnt cut or alter it as they are very very rare.
It your not bothered about the looks then make your own to fit yer own panniers.
That paralever looks like its a 1100 one so quite individual.
Ask Mr Wilks or checkout his builds on facebook maybe

Yes it seems it’s not a simple swap unfortunately. As such it’s now for sale! If anyone needs an R80GS-PD subframe let me know!

Sorry I read yer post wrong.
What year bike is your bike then as I recon r80 and r100 GS subframes are the same.
I think that subframes of another r80 or 100 bike and not a GS.
I only live in chezzer if yer want to take photos or measurements off my bike,
Its not a PD its a 1989 simple r80GS

It’s fine MickDB1 , it’s definitely an R80G/S frame and it doesn’t fit unfortunately. I’ll stick it for sale on Facebook. Thanks though mate

There is a specialist BMW motorcycle parts for sale page on facesplat. And another for airheads, several actually - you might surprise yourself as to how much it fetches. ;)
