Looking to replace my existing SMX 5 boots which are excellent but the heel's worn out.

Ordered a pair of the Air Plus boots as they're on offer and whilst they fit fine, I obviously can't try them out on the road if I want to return them. Has anybody got experience of riding in this boot and could tell me how cold your feet get, seeing as they're fully vented. I'm sure they'll be great in the summer, but they're going to be used all year round so want to know if I'm going to freeze when temps drop.
The alternative is the V2 SMX-6, which are not vented and quite a bit more expensive.

Surely anything with vents in it has has got to let the winter cold in, even if it is Goretex lined.

You'll get cold and wet in those.
Either size up and use w'proof socks or have 2 different pairs.
Failing that then just get the w'proof version and accept warm feet in summer.

That's what I was thinking, but won't know for sure until I ride in them - but then I have to buy them as they won't be unmarked.
I like my current Astars and when I spoke to a mate who works at Timpsons he said he'd only be able to put a replacement part on the existing heel
I didn't really want a pair of platform shoes so assumed the whole footbed couldn't be replaced. Will enquire further

Shouldn't get wet as they're Gore-Tex lined. But as they're made of a mesh material I was thinking they'd be too cold to use year round. I do have SealSkinz long waterproof socks I use on the MTB but that kinda defeats the point of Gore-Tex or even waterproof boots

The footbed can't be replaced but the sole can. I have some BMW boots I bought in the 1990s (Sidi copies?). I had them resoled some years ago by a local backstreet cobbler. You can't tell they are not original.

Talk to your mate again I'm sure he means they slice off the rubber heel/sole and glue/heat bond the new onto what's left. Remember I went to an old fashioned back street cobbler, I'm sure if they can do it then Timpsons should be able to. Either this or get a second opinion or find a specialist like in my post above.

My choice was to buy a pair of non-Goretex Daytona's from FC-Moto. They were OK in Spanish heat and are certainly showerproof.

Non Gore-Tex ones make my feet sweat, even in the UK. Got a pair of Sidi S Max6 Gore-Tex ones from Sportsbikeshop and they're bang on the money. Comfy even brand new, tall enough that my trousers don't ride up over them, and no doubt they're going to be fully waterproof. The resolving service was about £80 plus postage each way, so probably a ton all in. These new puppies were under £200 so will keep the others for when the weather's really shite.
