We all know that the 1200/1250 GS is the best bike in the world, but I was wondering what bike you would have as a second bike? or already have as a second bike?

I'm not sure I agree with your assertion about the LC but I have an '08 G650 X-Country as well. I can see it becoming increasingly important as I'm getting older

I have a V85TT I use as much as my GS. Especially solo riding locally in the Lakes and Dales

I also have a CRF300 for green laning.

i think if i got a second bike it would probably be a CRF300.
ok for my small commute and could do a bit of green lanes

Hardly Movin'son Breakout Anniversary

Stage 2 tuned (Torque Cam). Bought it back in 2018. Only do about 500 miles a year cos it gives me back ache and head ache :blast

Prefer to ride the GS. But just can't sell the Hardly.

I think quite a few on here are way further down the proverbial rabbit hole to be talking about choices of second bikes

I had an MZ Baghira as a second bike when I had my 1100s sport, which was fine as they were so different but I decided to sell both when I got my GS as I thought they might be too similar, but I regretted it almost immediately and bought a Yamaha XT660X which I used regularly for work and short local trips rather than the GS, but hardly used used it after I retired. I sold the XT & the GS to fund the purchase of my 1200R LC and a VanVan 125 for town trips, occasional towing behind the camper and for wife to hopefully pass her test on, and it colour matches the R.

Just love the sound this one makes. For those days when you're not going far and have nothing to carry

When choosing a second bike, you really need something the GS doesn't do well, but that's not a very long list, so maybe look at something different.
I have a GSA, but also;
2013 R1200r when i just want a blast one night in jeans and leather jacket.
Yamaha XV100 Warrior when i want a cruise and to make some noise.
Triumph Tiger 1050 on an 07 that I've had since new, so will never sell it.
Honda CBR1000f 1990 that was a mates bike from new, and i bought when he sadly died. Nice to go to bike night on.
CCM 604 DS for a mad hour on the back lanes, and the odd track day at 3 Sisters.

A different type of bike can make you ride the same local roads and get a different experience than you would on the GS. It all depends on when and where your going to ride it. But there are some nice bikes out there that are maybe a bit out of fashion, but can be had for decent money and give a lot of pleasure.

I’ve a 2002 XJR1300 which I’ve had from 3 months old and a Royal Enfield Himalayan.
The Himi has been a revelation, what a brilliant little bike.

Oh and I’ve not figured out how to add photos yet.

Well I recently changed the GSA for a KTM - so here's my two

I have an Urban as a second bike to my gs1250, I’ve spent more cash on that bike than any other bike I’ve owned but it is a keeper, Ahem😗
