Steptoes Moroccan Dash - A Ride Report

Steptoe said:
On our way back from the moroccan dash, a frenchman showed us a dodge used by bikes to get through the tolls, which i tried and it worked, unfortunatly after that, we only had one toll left to try it - Me and Forry sailed through no problem -

;)

Well, what is this dodge then?? If I know what it is then I will know what not to do :thumb

Think about what happens at an auto toll, car pulls up pays and the barrier goes up, your behind him in the queue, you have two options, wait for barrier to come down and pay or................

Alternativley, no one in front of you, you pull up on bike and pay, your mate pulls along side of you, barrier goes up, you ride through, your mate has two options, wait for barrier to come down and pay or.........

Not rocket science is it. I just wonder if the auto tolls have CCTV and links to the police?

Best done on Spanish toll roads using the credit card paying booths. They are unmanned and, as far as I could see last time I was there, no CCTV. Effectively you pay for a car but that's cheaper than two bikes.

Pull up, pay, wait for barrier to raise and payee to secure credit card / gloves and then launch both bikes on the count of 3. With practice you could probably get away with 4 bikes as long as the second two kept their heads down!

Spooky, cos I was thinking of something like this last week ;)

Cracking report & pics. :thumb

If that doesn't get the travelling juices flowing, you may as well give up. :D

MMmmm, this might not be the best idea in the world for Brits. For sure there will be a law where they can bring back the guillotine/confiscate the bike/fine you €10000000000000000000000. Local bikers just might get away with a slapped wrist, you may get your head removed :D For the amount you save is it worth it? :nenau I will ask but I think this would come under theft rather than a motoring offence, could be serious poo. Maybe Mike Werner knows.....Mike?

Seems a trifle harsh, unless of course there is a story to go with this comment :nenau

Been a bit dazed the last day or so to write anything sensible.

What are my thoughts now that I am in the comforts of my home.

The most memorable thing about the trip has to be the people. I did not really know anybody that well on the trip. Yet the friendship over the 10 days was stronger than people you might have worked with all your life!

I got to put my hands up as the wringer of the trip, as I was pretty scared for most of the trip. Mainly because I did not know what to expect. Yet when I think about it. Everytime I needed support, there was someone there. These are just guys on their holiday ... yet they made sure the group got through the week without harm. I think that is one of the best things about this trip. It has made me regain confidence in mankind. Maybe it is just the type of work I do, but I have kinda lost faith in people. This trip has certainly changed that for me. I hope I have some new friends for life and a "special uncle" :D

The other memorable part was the most miserable part of the trip. The road to Zuomi was a feckng pain in the arse. I was shitting myself all the way. Yet again if I think about the experience as it happened ... the views were fecknig fantastic. It is worth seeing (you were right Bill!).

The day I had my incident ... It was exactly the opposite of what I thought might happen. By riding with the group, I was actually pushing myself to ride better. So when I decide to ride "my own pace" I made silly mistake and had my interaction with the Muckle Wagen :(
Again .. the moment I stopped and sent out the SOS ... everyone responded straightaway and Bill was with me in a flash. Everyone helped to patch my bike together to get me on my way.

The Gorge where we stayed was absolutely beautiful and well worth a visit. The country is so beautiful. From the green pastures of the north ... through the green and brown section between the Rif and Atlas to the red brown of the valley of the rose ... just awesome and breathtakingly beautiful.

My advice to others ... just fecking do it. I really take my hat off to snoopy for doing a far more hardcore route. It's easy to sit at home with your pipe and slippers to "have a go" at people for taking risks (even silly ones). The point is that they had a go and experienced. Sure you can do it in a more "pipe and slippers" way and neither are wrong. The key is to go and see it. It is a beautiful country! The people outside of the cities/towns are very friendly. They are not trying to fleece you ...

As someone said on the tour ..... "Feck this male bonding!" :D

BTW ... I still think those Harleys were cool ... especially since they had a lead bike and a car escort with flashing sirens :D

You can kiss my .....

Interesting comment but totally uncalled for. Actually Blowzone stopped to take photos so I slowed down to wait for him. He didn't appear, so I stopped and waited. He still didn't appear so I went back and retraced the route. When he finally appeared he roared past me to rejoin the rest of the 'pack' and disappeared up the road at speeds of well over 100 mph. After ten minutes or so of chasing (my GPS registered 115 mph) I decided I wasn't interested in riding with such a mad group and dropped off the back.

Tim ... I think it is probably a small misunderstanding.

I never met either of you before the trip but I have a lot of time for you both through the experience of the trip. I hope this doesn't turn all nasty as you are both good guys!

Good call Tim :thumb

I wasn't worried when you didn't let us know where you were as I guessed you didn't enjoy our riding style and had decided to do your own thing. Thanks for booking us in the F1 on the way down and helping us fill out the forms for Moroccan customs :)

Where do you think we are in this photo?

How many people are in this "room"?

All in the name of male bonding??? :ymca
