GS Adventure, top box compatibility question (s)

A quick question...
The BMW aluminium top box that fits on the current GSA-LC models, will it also fit on the earlier 1200 GSA bikes?

If the answer is "yes", then does anyone have the mounting plate from the earlier bike that they would like to sell? (I seem to recall that this part was separate to the main rack).

I have a project in mind to fit my LC topbox to my 1100GS.

The only way would be to remove the rails from the bottom of the box and bolt it straight onto the bike.

So, if I wanted to make it removeable, I'd have to look at getting the rack assembly off a GSA-LC and do serious modifications to the mounting?

Might take the frame off my 1250 and do some measuring then.
Anyone near Stockport that can weld stainless?!
