Midday Express - Istanbul on the hoof

Its all in the eye of the beholder :augie

Day 27

Calais to London

64 Miles (Which now feels like popping to the corner shop )

Onto ferry, the usual efficient book in and french border, sadly the usual UK border clusterfuck.

Nice staff, but way too few, foreign people visiting us here arriving wherever must think we’re a bunch of clowns , anyway, onwards to dat London …..

I get to same hotel as on way out a month ago, and same lady is on .

Nice chit chat and how trip went etc.

I give her my 'official Istanbul' BMW hat as a keepsake. fair trade for allowing me to park at back of hotel.

Into town for a walk and to see a west end show, bit of a tradition of mine now after big trip.

Show, Thai street food and headed back to hotel on train as I type.

Last day tomorrow, your daily dose of boredom is close to an end, don’t worry

Pics …

Never quite as exciting queing to go west ….

Various modes of transport……

I get a warm welcome back from the local cockernee wankas

It’s a good show, lots of farce stuff and the sets look great too.

A bit of a gander and some food.

Come across this near Punch and Judy Covent Garden …..

I know nothing about cars but I can guess that ….

1. This is expensive

2. He can afford the parking fine.

Onwards towards the Savoy….

One of the rare places in the UK where you drive on the right.

I assume it’s olde worldly, carriages and ladies frocks etc.

Back to the hotel, a different day.

Call work to find out that I'm straight off to Cork day after tomorrow.............. reality is soon coming my way again.

Head down and hope for a dry day tomorrow, rather than blatt up the motorway Ill take the scenic route, a more befitting way to end the trip. :beerjug:

Last entry and summary tomorrow............

Yes, you have discovered 'Saudi Boy Racer Season' is here in London one again! No amount of fines are going to make an impression on someone who flies their car into London for 'The Season'....

Welcome back and thanks for the great insight into your journey....your personal style is appreciated by many. (You don't know quite where your inspiration leads, but inspiration it is!).

Thanks.

Yes I guess the arrogance is such that they don't care about parking fines etc.

Maybe the fines should be means tested :okay

Hah if its 'inspired' a ride I'll take that vas a great compliment :thumby:

Enjoy it wherever you go .....

Day 28

London to Home (Derbyshire)

178 Miles

Got to love parking outside your room., as safe as I ever feel in London

So,as pig headed as ever I stick to A and B roads once I’ve left London. I dont want the last leg of the trip to be mundane, not in keeping with the rest etc.

Great ride back via the Cotswolds and some fast A roads.

Stopped in Chipping Norton and read news article attached........

Reminds me of the story of bloke found in a ditch with womens clothes on, high heels , an RAF Regiment cap, and a vibrator inserted up to the battery cap.

As the press arrived and started taking pictures, Police removed the RAF cap to try and preserve his dignity, and save his family any embarrassment :beerjug:

Onwards and a quick military culture stop to keep you all entertained.

Home safe to find I’d had an unexpected visitor ……….

Oh dear …..

This may be of interest to some..........

The reason I put it up is this........

Without realising it when I bought my house, I live right next to the village he escaped to and boarded a train.

Had I known that Id have made a higher offer ;)

If anyone wants to see the film I'll send you the DVD :thumby:

Park up, and thankfully house is still in one piece….. sort of ….

I’ve had an uninvited guest who didn’t like my decor so decided upon a dirty protest ….

Poor sod got trapped from chimney and presumably starved to death.

Clear up starts now.

It was obviously a BMW fan as thankfully it left the Scrambler alone …. (Cue usual smart arse remarks re suspension yawn).

But not my TV, git.

That’s it, the final numbers …..

Just shy of 6000, about what I thought when I bodge planned it.

e424d934f0fa1abe1b311a84bfc22cde.jpg

Rolling average of 41 MPH. I’ve found over long trips this varies very very little.

44fe010faab26ff51cd6ee16a9d9c047.jpg

An average of 60.8 MPG. This was higher than I expected. Maybe a little optimistic on the bikes part ????

So thank you for joining me.

A great trip with so much diversity; weather, roads, people, etc etc.

If anyone wants anything further let me know.

Quite happy to share routing, kit info, border paperwork, top tips etc etc.

Back to reality now, and Job 1....... a bike crash.

Go easy folks :beerjug:
