Nokia announce the acquisition of Navteq 1st Oct
“The purchase price values Navteq at US $8.1 billion.”
”This announcement now means that we no longer have any independent global mapping companies. It also shows that both TomTom and Nokia have serious visions for the future in navigation and Location Based Services.”

Navteq is Garmin’s supplier of mapping and was the last of two independent global mapping companies. (The other independent was Tele Atlas, bought by TomTom a short while back). Naïve soul that I am, I thought Garmin might buy Navteq, but at 8.1 Billion USD, perhaps that was too big a bite
Oh well, at least Microthief didn’t buy it
