Symptoms as follows,

Motorcycle stopped for fuel after 2 hours riding.....would not start, no connection from electronic ignition to starter, after cycling the switches and keys a few times it started.

Motorcycle stopped at traffic lights.....switched engine off and would not start, again nothing from the starter button.....after 30 minutes of random starterswitch/sidestand/ functioning it started.

Motorcycle stopped for lunch break.....same symptoms as above, would not start at all.....called BMW recovery.

Would it be possible to be a problem with the starter/kill switch or side stand switch?

The greater Knowledge of the board members is welcomed...

Sound like hall sensor failure , not sur if 1200 suffers same as older bikes

Val

2 bikes , twice is happy 🤔

Seen similar symptoms on 2011 RT and it was the RHS switchgear the bike was recovered to a very friendly Italian BMW dealer and the switchgear replaced for free even though it was out of warranty !!

The wiring at the base of the ignition switch is subject to failure on the 1100/1150 GS/RT's. Over time they can break due to being too closely tied to the frame not giving enough freedom of movement.
