New R1250 Rallye with 17” wheels.

I have a set of the kineo wheels on my 13 lc te , bought them secondhand fitted with new pilot road fours and tyre pressure monitors and they had also been newly powder coated, £500. So far no problems, the 13 lc can be made to read two sets of tyre monitors. The bike handles very quick, no problems from the abs, just brilliant.

@ Arsey # 2 ; Happy new year to you too...
I actually have not self combusted but "global warming" is sooo bad that Kalifornia looks more like Siberia and roads are covered in snow, ice and cinders...not good for riding.
Got me a new bike though. Not the "R1250GS-XR" with 17" wheels straight from Berlin but traded the 2017 R1200GS-ADV in Triple black for a 2019 R1250GS-ADV in Nazi-Panzertank Grey.Love bike & color :thumb2 and will report how much faster it is than the 1290 KTM once it is broken in and I can finally use the 5000rpm + cam-lobes...:thumby:
I will report in April after running it hard in Mexico how much better it is than the old 1200;so far it feels the same except the engine feels perfect as in fueling,TORQUE and the mechanical noises coming from the valvetrain are finally gone.
And my old Akra-3 fit perfectly so the upgrade cost me only 10 grand...;)
Now all we need is some real global warming because cold weather and motorcycles don't mix !
B.t.w. love the black Exclusive with the golden painted rims...:thumb2

Regarding the ABS etc, Reggie353 has been running a 17” front wheel for a while with no problems from the electronics.

The bike can read the sensors in the new wheels, after you take the bike back to the dealer to be re-programmed. The early LC’s could recognise 2 different sets of wheels eg. off-road tyres on one set and pure road tyres on another. The later ones cannot so changing wheels illuminates a warning light.

The ESA alters the preload but that is in relation to the load it senses, eg a pillion or lots of luggage. Changing the front tyre to a 17” drops the front by 1”. The ESA won’t compensate for that, so the front of the bike will drop, altering the weight distribution by lowering the engine and possibly affecting ground clearance. Would be a bit like dropping forks through the yokes on a normal bike. I want to keep the stance/weight distribution the same but be able to choose sports tyres as I don’t venture off road at all.

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated :thumb2 So we shouldn't expect any electronic issues on a 1250 lc after taking it to a dealer; and the ESA will detect and interpret the angle change as a physical weight change and by adding an 1" of preload to the new shock pushes it back up, but this wouldn't work on a bike with auto ESA ? .. Appreciate that the desired end result is faster steering and better handling with a smaller front wheel but might there be a handling trade-off by adding 1" of preload ?

Regards
JohnC:)

Finally got bike. Some pics taken when I got home yesterday.

Brilliant looking. You must be chuffed. Treat yourself to a Carbon Rennkuh front mud guard.

Will be even better once the headers arrive and it’s been to Geoff’s for a remap. Handling was quite good coming back through the twisties in the Scottish Borders on Michelin Power RS tyres. Will be better still once I’ve had a bit play with the Ohlins.
I’m not a fan of carbon fibre though I do have a load of stuff off my last Adv to put back on.

That is a lovely looking bike enjoy!

It helps to have an excellent dealer in Motorrad Central in Dalkeith, whose staff cared as much as me about ensuring the finished article lived up to my expectations.

That looks great. I like the last picture! :D

You need to make some spacers for the top fixing points on the front mudguard and use the existing side fixings with a hidden bracket.

I did a similar wheel conversion many years ago to my 1150GSA using RT wheels I loved it handled superb
the girls are now 26 and 22 LOL
