Just bought myself a new GS Adventure and wondering which camera to fit and how. There seems so many options it's getting confusing. The Nav 6 has a VIRB connection on it. How do I use it, what cameras are suitable to use it and what mounts to use? Plus costs? The more I look the more confused I get. What are the pros and cons of a VIRB camera and what actually is it? Am I better off just getting a Go-Pro and a snazzy mount for the front?

Which camera you get depends on your budget and what you intend using it for. If it's just for record purposes in case you get knocked off etc you're better off getting a proper bike cam that operates automatically via a switched live. I mounted my front camera (I've got a 1040 front 720 rear combo from Aliexpress) on the RH metal frame above the RH front indicator and on the underside of the rear rack above the rear light with the control unit under the passenger seat with the switched live supplied via a hexezecan. Steve Able's youtube channel A bike thing has videos on how to remove the panels which are very useful if you've not done it before 👍

I have a Garmin VIRBX, which I have in the past controlled wirelessly (start/stop record, take a photo) with my zumo 590 satnav. The wireless technology used by these is called "ANT+".

However, although it was great to be able to control the camera that way, I now use an Insta360 One R because it's a better camera. The Insta360 can do 4k, and is has much better motion / vibration damping than the VIRBX. Actually, I'm not sure Garmin even do an action camera anymore?

I control the Insta360 wirelessly (via bluetooth and WiFi) using the Insta360 app running on my iPhone, which I have mounted on a Quadlock wireless charger mount (also with the vibration damper, although the 'iPhone's camera is already knackered). It's a shame the Insta360 doesn't have ANT+.

I have the Insta360 mounted on a 'GuardConcept' (Wunderlich) mount, above the headlight. I'm powering both the Quadlock mount and the camera from the cockpit USB socket, via a USB splitter cable. When I remove the camera from the bike, I leave the Insta360's mounting frame and the USB cable behind, so it remains set for the correct angle; no undoing of the GoPro-style mount is required.

I would post a picture (or two), but I've just discovered that it's apparently not possible to do that on here (am I missing something?).

The camera you buy will depend on what you want it for. I have an INNOVV K3 on my 1250 which goes on/off with the ignition, has a front and rear camera and the video is good enough for capturing footage for insurance purposes (in the event of a claim) and for amateur videos. If you want better video and sound, then the INNOVV K5 has 4K recording. Both are easy to mount.

There seems to be a place in Warrington who fit them, I may give them a call to get the K3 fitted.

If you do go the K3 route, and have it fitted by the guys in Warrington, get them to use the R1250 GS Adventure fitting for the front camera - I have this on mine and it makes it a very neat fitting with unobstructed view (I appreciate it says K5 holder, but trust me, it mounts the K3 front camera neatly as well)

Went to look at the place this evening, looks respectable. Will be calling in in the next day or so and see what sort of price it is to fit.

Hi Skudd
Can you let me know what the costs are when you find out?
Thanks

It’s an olfi cam for me on front only, starts with ignition and loop records but doesn’t record speed which suits me fine, it’s fit and nearly forget except for the occasional full format but just be careful how you plug the power cord back into the waterproof housing as I didn’t get it quite right last time I did it just days days before an errant motorist in holiday mode nearly took me and another member here out, as for mounting I use a copy of the wonderlicht bracket which bolts under the headlight, works great no vibes and reasonably priced all in compared to other systems, olfi same as go pro but a lot cheaper 👍🏻👌

porn movie?
wide angle lens, low angles, makes everything look more impressive.... and good lighting is very important... and sound... but that can be fixed in post...! Look up Freddie Morse his work was all on the job training so to speak....
