I’ve just read the manual online.

The oil light flashing (not solid) is telling me of an elec fault.

It may well be the broken speedo drive!

Clever these tmax’s. Even 20 odd year old ones

Indeed, there is a diagnostic mode on my Mk3 that workshops can use, although thankfully I’ve never needed to enable it. I’m not sure how it works on the Mk 1/2 but I’d wager it’s similar. It’s all covered in the official Yamaha manual.
