Anyone know the thread on the rear lower shock mounting bolt on a 2007 gsa? Part number 07129907435. Snapped mine last night and bmw is a week wait, need the bike back on the road asap . Bike isnt at my home so need to get a bolt before i go back to take it out.its m10x80 but dont know theead pitch

The female thread is in a blind hole in the swingarm. If the head of the bolt has sheared off under torque and left the bolt shank in place you could be in for a world of pain as the bolt remains cannot be hack sawed out to remove the shock without damaging the swingarm casting.

I hope nobody has fitted the wrong bolt to the wrong hole eg top bolt in bottom hole. They are similar sizes but different thread pitches and lengths which could cause the bolt threads to seize.

My guess is remove the swingarm complete with shock absorber and hand to an engineering firm to machine it out.

Good luck.

It can work out a lot cheaper and quicker buying a used swingarm. Last one i bought (3 months ago) was only £50.

I can get it out no problem,im a mechanic .its just getting the bolt in a hurry is the issue as its my daily driver. Didnt shear under torque, just a worn out bolt thats been over torqued and stretched going by feel

Old thread on here gives this info (post 22); although i would assume they may have meant M10, not M12
Upper Shock Bolt = M12 x 1.5 x 60mm
Lower shock Bolt = M12 x 1.75 x 75mm

Can confirm the bolt is m10x1.5x80 for future searches

They are bloody tight!
I heated mine up to melt the Thread Lock when I whipped the Shock out for Dens0 a few weeks back.
Made life much easier...

When i removed mine on the hexhead, I applied some heat, how much ? who knows, i used a big breaker bar and it went quite easily, with that spongy feeling you get when removing loctited bolts

The bushing on the other hand, no amount of heat or a bush press would shift the fecker , so i left it in situ

Nice one

But Did you get it out without a fight ??

Yeah,it came out first time. Bolt was broke in the shock so cut between the shock and swingarm with a fine hacksaw, drill centre with a 4mm hss long bit and then hammered a long T25 torx into it and came out straight away thankfully

I always find removing and refitting a rear shock a lot easier is the aluminium bush is pulled out a couple of mm.
My method for doing this is screw in a 7/16 UNF tap 7 turns into the hole where the 10mm bolt was removed from.
Using a 7/16 UNF Nut and bolt a thick washer and spacer with a piece of rubber to protect the paint.
Screw the bolt in and tighten the nut to pull the bush out a couple of mm.
