I thought I would treat the GSA to a new set of plugs ready for the summer.

I took out the first plug which is a NGK BKR7EKC, got the new one out of the box and checked it was the same but noticed the number is slightly different. The new one is a NGK BKR7EKC-N.

Anyone know what the 'N' means, can I still use these?

Any help much appriciated.

The N may indicate that the sparkplug has a nickel centre core. No reason that you cant use them if they are listed form your bike.

From NGK :
“Multi-Ground Electrode Spark Plug BMW Oilhead; 12 12 7 653 771 / BKR7EKC-N / NGK
Part #: BKR7EKC-N”

NGK Multi-Ground Electrode where "N" stands for Nickle (requires a 16mm socket)

The Spark Plug improves ignition capabilities and is less sensitive to increased voltage requirements due to gap growth.

Optional BOSCH substitute is FR6KDEO or FR6KDC+ with Ytrium Center Electrode

Vehicle Manufacturer: BMW
Application: BMW Oilhead Models
Make.Model: BMW R850R, R1100S, R1150, R1200
Model Years: 1996 - 2007
Manufacturer #: 12 12 7 653 771

Thank you, seems they should okay then.

Quick update.
Received this from NGK (UK)

This BKR7EKC-N item, although dimensionally similar to BKR7EKC, it has a slightly smaller 0.8 mm electrode gap (BKR7EKC = 0.9 mm electrode gap), along with a slight difference to the composition of the material used for the ground electrodes.

It is likely the BKR7EKC-N could still be used for your bike without any issues.

Thank you for your enquiry.
